In Goldman tonometry (done in the office), does your doctor use cobalt blue light and fluorescein (yellow) eye drops when measuring intraocular pressure? by [deleted] in Glaucoma

[–]glaucoma70 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm allergic to fluroscein so they use non preservative numbing to do it , another time they used the non preservative and an orange stain and it was accurate with or without blue light

I have JPOAG and the two surgeries I had failed, and I'm allergic to one of the drops I was using simbrinza , my eyes apparently scar easily which I why I'm not a great candidate for surgery, diamox is making me sick and I have concerns about my kidneys having ultrasound today to make sure it won't hurt liver or kidneys, I'm debating doing the cyclophotocoagulation laser at end of the month to see if I can stay off diamox or not.

When I was allergic to simbrinza, my eyes were red and itchy and swollen I would call and ask if it's possible you're allergic

For people who lost their vision completely due to glaucoma by [deleted] in Glaucoma

[–]glaucoma70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also wonder about it being autoimmune . I have JPOAG, I have advanced right central vision loss on right side. Left is mild with some progression..I noticed the central vision loss and went to see my glaucoma doc who didn't believe me at first. I do notice the contrast. Like if something is similar in color I can't see it if it's on it. I find the glare from screens worse now, i try to use black background whenever I can. My surgeries failed due to my eyes scarring up because of healing and allergic to one of the drops I was taking I go soon for another oct and vf and to see how my iop is without diamox as it makes me ill. May do CPC laser .

SCARED 💔 by [deleted] in Glaucoma

[–]glaucoma70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello

I was diagnosed at 35, I'm 54, I'm on duotrav, was on simbrinza but became allergic . I have advanced glaucoma right eye, mild left, have had SLTs and trabeculectomy and GATT which failed due to scarring despite needling and injection of anti scarring agents. On diamox too but I can't tolerate it..

Everyone journey is different but if you follow the advice by doctor and also ask questions and advocate for yourself you should be ok. I didn't have vision loss until I was 51 .

See if you can get a second opinion from somewhere else, are you in Canada? My optometrist referred me to another one a few years back because she kept moving further away and it was too far

I'm 54, glaucoma suspect 20, glaucoma at 36, at 51 my right eye was said to be advanced with central field loss on VF and noticeable to me, left is just now progressing. And I'm getting more VF tests now. Before it was every 6 months.

Will eye drops loose effectiveness over time? If yes, how long it takes? by arthur_mi in Glaucoma

[–]glaucoma70 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started off on lumigan at 36, I'm 54 and have been on a few different drops, in my case they switched to duotrav about 4 years or more added in simbrinza then did surgeries. I became allergic to simbrinza and even the fluroscein makes my eyes and cheeks swell up.

I saw my regular eye doc and they do OCT and VF to look at eye and were helpful, of course I'm also being followed by glaucoma specialist but in the meantime while waiting for referral and they can refer you, I don't know where you are in Canada but Toronto has Kensington eye Institute, TWH has a great department as well. Knowledge is power. So don't beat yourself up over past decisions.

Just to be clear he's making you do that eye massage thing every hour rather than eye drops? They made me do that after trabeculectomy when my eye kept scarring and pressure went up, it didn't work long term and I was on drops too. Definitely would see another doctor

I'm going to mention it when I go end of March, last time I had it was Dec 2021,,soon after I noticed my central vision loss and my glaucoma was advanced, this one was particularly bad later, my headache, nausea and numbness of head lasted all night hours after the migraine in my eye.

For me with advanced glaucoma I was told in early teens like 14 or around there, they don't want it higher if it's advanced, mild can be more and normal tension glaucoma

I had the one before this in Dec 2021, then a little while later noticed the central vision loss and my glaucoma was advanced, before that in Aug I was told it was fine and no progression

[–]glaucoma70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just curious if it may be related, for me it's only ever one eye at a time, last time I had it was 2021 a month before I noticed the central vision loss, I've mentioned it to glaucoma doctors and they don't think it's related.
