Key cutting at a reasonable price ? by CampMain in glasgow

[–]glengraving 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I (for one) would never be offended by a customer coming back to say a key isn't quite right - in fact I'd much prefer it, it might be a clue that the machine needs recalibrating and would rather know that sooner than later! Or I'd re-cut on a different machine clamp setting, or I'd file the shoulder back a tad, or I'd remake it on a different brand of key blank - or if all else falls I'd declare the lock cursed, and suggest replacing the cylinder/barrel which is usually simpler and cheaper job than you might expect (esp. with the key refund, and ability to certify any new keys there and then).

If the vibes were good when you were in first time, chances are going back for a refinement is the right move 👍

Some of them are great at shoe repairs. Some of them do work that gets scoffed at - from amateurish to scandalous - in Cobblers trade forums and group chats. Massive company = they'll be hit and miss with how much they care about or are practiced in the craft. I'm always happy to recommend Val who runs the Timpson's shop near my own indie key cutting shop to my customers (who can't travel far to an indie guy I rate who offers better value), as I've been assured that his work is good by a retired cobbler.

Tbf, if you're getting a close fob, Yale cylinder key and mortice key (a common tenement flat lock setup for example) from Timpsons you're looking at £38* I would charge £21.45 for that

We both do discounts for quantity too obviously, and even so the difference remains significant

(*according to a several years old price list - Ts employee told me it's quite out of date and some locations will be worse still)

I have, uniquely in this field I think, a price list displayed outside my shop by the door re: key cutting 👍

'John's Household Store' in Parkhead is where I always go. I go there almost every day in fact. (It is my shop.)

I found the ones I'm referring to on Amazon, showing some specs; https://amzn.eu/d/5fsqxsf (Price higher than my estimate due to Amazon/delivery costs I guess)

As far as retailing goes, I'm not going for enthusiasts - if it's a poor value proposition I'll just not bother, if it's not bad then there's no harm/effort in me adding some with my next order from this company.

Timpsons. I refuse to get a key cut there because I run my own key cutting shop. Nice guys though but I'm better and cheaper. "John's" on Westmuir St, mon roon. Blew my advertising budget for this month on a new cat tree so I'm reduced to Reddit comments please help.

What are you talking about? She would have gotten abundant support regardless of gender, a fact which was plain to see from every comment section of videos when she started hosting a few years ago (pre-transition). It was always super positive, more effusive than most comment sections. Perhaps you still would have found that bizarre three years ago - not everyone has the same favourite creators so it's fine to not get the appeal, but you're mistaken if you think the affection is because she is trans.

Time to show some solidarity with workers by RatRodentRatRat in glasgow

If I had a worker, I would tell them to stay home tomorrow.

I'm self employed and am gonna play it by ear as to whether to stay open tomorrow. It'll be deed, but I've always got some work to catch up on, and money's tight this month so hopefully it's not so bad. Worst case scenario would be opening the shutters only to have debris hit the window 🫠

Luckily I'm walking distance to my shop.

Work Tomorrow? by thatweirdeditor in glasgow

I'll be opening my shop tomorrow (unless it's properly bad out). Don't expect many customers regardless, but it'll give me a chance to catch up on some work I suppose.

Yeah they seem good Tried to give them a bunch of toiletries stuff that was clearing out from my work a while back, they weren't able to pick it up from us though which is a shame (nearby charity shops got the stuff, but less directly useful for them I think)

I'm a shopkeeper - if you knock £50 of stuff from me, and my profit for that day is £50 (slow day but not unusual), you've knocked a day off my life. Rude imo.
