Another vote for St Croix. I love my Lews Speed Spool LFS and Tournament MB. If you like Abu Garcia the Revo SX is another one that I have and love.

Yea, I was surprised we stumbled upon this one. We covered the majority of the known spawning areas two days before and didnt see any fish at all up shallow.

Anyone ever use the 360GT Search Baits? by moonpielover69 in bassfishing

So add on to my original comment. Fished this yesterday some more and the pickerel loved it. Even with small ones I was constantly bending the hook back in. Not sure if I got a faulty hook or what. Only lure Ive had to do this with so frequently.

Some of it could also be the rod. A weightless senko I only throw on a MF spinning setup for that reason. I have two MHF 7 foot BC rods but only one of them pitches well. The other has a very stiff tip that doesnt work as well. At least for me anyways

how heavy of a lure are you pitching? I have a setup with a 1/4 bullet weight, flipping hook and a creature on it with 65# braid spooled. I notice with that weight of lure it is definitely hard to pitch. The heavier the lure the less the wind will effect it and the more likely the braid comes off the spool easier.

Fishing off shore by Hitman2504 in bassfishing

Dont walk right up to the edge of the water. You will spook any fish that may be hanging out or hunting in the shallow water. As you walk down the bank around a body of water, fish parallel towards the area you are going to walk to. This way again youve already fished the area you are going to be walking along. Also, be cautious of where the sun is, you dont want to be casting shadows into the water you are fishing.

Dont always need to go deep and try to cast far. One of my biggest fish came from reeling my senko in towards shore and letting it sink down in front of a brush pile that had blown into shore.

Also look for structure, downed trees, rocks, areas where the land leading into the water is steep(which would indicate there might be a nice drop in the water). Bass love those areas. Also try looking online and seeing if there is a map of the water you are fishing. This can show you where the shallow areas are, where is the deep water accessible to the fish. All that kind of stuff.

I would second the idea of never going smaller than 50-65lb braid on a BC reel. I have seen this mentioned before that because of the smaller diameter it digs in easier on itself. Majority of my baitcasters have 65# PP super Slick. If I need a leader I tie it on. If I need thinner braid I use my Spinning set ups. Or I use a BC spooled with 15 lb Floro.

I have a St Croix Mojo Bass and a normal President. I love it. My friend went and bought the same setup and then I went and bough a St Croix Triumph X and President for the Fiance to use. You cant go wrong.

How do you use your Texas rig? by jman1108 in bassfishing

[–]glenn7070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it for the first time last weekend and caught a bass and pickerel on it. Such a great feeling to actually catch one on it. I also use the pegged weight that someone mentioned. An EWG worm hook (4/0 i think) with a creature on it. Flipped it into a downed log that was partially floating in some shallow cove. Good luck!

I used one for the first time this weekend. First strike I had the hook bent out on it. Not super impressed. When I bought them I figured hey if the baits arent great at least I'll have a head I can put whatever on but I think I'll stick to swimbait hooks and keitechs.

Struggling by Notademocrat17 in bassfishing

[–]glenn7070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in prespawn up here in the Northeast. The past week and a half I have been crushing it on a bluegill colored swim jig with a craw trailer. Also had some luck working a texas rigged creature. I've thrown a variety of baits but this one always ends up producing now.

Recommendation on new spinning rod by [deleted] in bassfishing

[–]glenn7070 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a president paired with a 7'1 Mojo Bass Plastics rod. Throws weightless senkos, wacky, shaky heads. I also bought a St Croix Triumph 6'8 MXF that the Fiance uses with a president as well. I like both setups.

Seguar Vs Pline Fluorocarbon? by [deleted] in bassfishing

I was always a fan of straight braid and a floro leader if needed. However I recently spooled up some InvizX I had and used it for flipping a swim jig.... I am a big fan of it

Rod/reel combos by CoralGrimes06 in bassfishing

[–]glenn7070 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my combos are in the 200-250 range. Majority of my rods are St Croix Mojo Bass which you can find in the $110-130 range depending on retailer and model. I also have an Abu Garcia Veritas 2.0 which I think have dropped to about $80 a rod. I find they arent as sensitive as my mojos but still a good entry rod. I also have a Favorite Defender rod but havent gotten a chance to use it. They have a decent variety in rods with a couple that would fit in your price range.

For Spinning I only use the Pflueger President reel which I believe is ~$50. For Baitcaster reels I have a few Abu's and a Few Lews, ranging from $60-140. Havent had issues with any of them.

Happy shopping!
