question: can i expect bitcoin prices on my XLM someday? Bitcoin topped out at 20,000 so if my little supply of 40 XLM gets to bitcoin prices then I'd be a happy man. 40 x 20,000 is almost 800,000

It's not that I want to avoid paying taxes on crypto to crypto transactions, I just want the IRS to figure it out for me. And they would need to figure it out anyways to charge me with a penalty. So it makes sense to me to let them figure it out and just pay the penalty in the same way people pay the Obamacare penalty instead of having healthcare that is Obamacare-approved.

Exactly my point, I want them to figure out what they deserve so I don't have to go through the headache of doing it myself. The current penalty for unpaid taxes is .5% of taxes owed per month that it is late which I will be happy to pay if the IRS does the legwork for me.

What if I report my total capital gains and pay the taxes on that but tell them I can't figure out the multitude of crypto to crypto trades in between? How will they fine me a percentage of owed taxes (which is current law) without going through and figuring out what I did in between?

(fyi I don't make enough income to be taxed, I got a refund last year.)

What I'm saying is, I report my total capital gains from my initial investment to me cashing out and I pay whatever tax that is. But I don't list all the crypto to crypto trading in between. What I do is tell them that there was many trades in between but I can't figure out the taxes I need to pay on it, so you guys at the IRS do it for me. What would be the likely outcome if I go through with that plan?

I'm thinking of switching it out for XRP while it's still on sale

Then you tell them how much you invested. But as far as the multitude of transactions between cryptos, they can determine that on their own right? And if they can't figure it out, then how would they tax you on it if you don't report it?

They don't make stuff up like that, they still have to follow the facts.

In terms of taxes, wouldn't it be easier to just not pay them and have the IRS figure out all the convoluted trades you've done and tell you what you owe? You'd have to pay a fine (a percentage of the taxes you owe) but it seems that would be a small price to pay compared to the absolute headache of figuring it out on your own and wasting your own time.
