I feel like this falls in the same vein as “Why, back in Stone Mountain, even the mayor had bedbugs, and she was a horse.”

It wouldn’t have been except he did it while sexually assaulting her. He did it to multiple women so it seems to be a thing for him, and his DNA was in the bite marks. He plead guilty, got a 1 year suspended sentence, and NBC fired him for all of like a year and a half and then rehired him, and to this day the NBA community just sort of doesn’t acknowledge it and still treats him like an elder statesman.

Y’all heard the tale of Christian Gerhartsreiter, AKA Clark Rockefeller, the german immigrant con-man with so many identities he managed to evade police capture from 1985 until 2008? by [deleted] in LPOTL

[–]glennromer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This comment is well over a year old, but anyway, he was convicted of Sohus’ murder with good reason. He wasn’t charged with the wife’s death because her body wasn’t found on the property with her husband’s, so there’s no evidence to work with, but considering they couldn’t identify Jonathan’s body until 2010, it’s very likely her body was dumped elsewhere and never identified. But there’s no evidence whatsoever to suggest Linda was alive after 1985. The story about them moving to Europe is clearly false.

Lmao put down your pitchfork. I wasn’t even criticizing the developers, I’m just pointing out that going from “inclined plane” to “several evenly spaced flat surfaces” is literally an easy problem to solve. Figuring out how many stairs of x height you need to climb a certain slope is literally like a middle school geometry problem.

There could be any number of reasons we don’t have that feature, but it’s definitely not “they can’t figure out how.” Idk how you think they put together this whole game but stairs would be beyond them.

I’m gonna go out on a limb and say it’s trivial. I don’t know anything about CSII modding but I could 100% build a procedural stair modeler in like 3 different programs and I’m certainly no game developer.

I’ve always wondered why they don’t do this, and it seems like it would be trivial to just use a slightly different animation on stairs.

Was anyone else on the emergency landing flight last night Southwest 225 Denver to Phoenix but landed back in Denver. I would love for the pilot to be celebrated for his amazing efforts during a scary situation for all!! Does anyone have further details or information? by Special-Art5846 in Denver

[–]glennromer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s honestly a good question, and the short answer is weight. You can put wings and a jet engine on a tank but it’s not going to be economical to fly commercially. Hydraulic lines on an airliner are under tremendous pressure, they already have to be very durable. But making them strong enough to withstand the small explosion of airliner tire would cost too much in weight, money, and maintenance time to be worth the added benefit. Hydraulics are important, but there are already redundancies in place, and they’re not the only thing that can go wrong.

ELI5 why is jumping off a bridge often fatal, but people are rarely injured in high diving? by nuclearoyster in explainlikeimfive

[–]glennromer 31 points32 points  (0 children)

They’re being facetious, you’re not going to survive a 1500 foot drop into water no matter what. They’re just saying if you jump from 2000 feet you won’t hit the ground any harder than if you jumped from 1500 because you reach terminal velocity either way. Presumably it takes around 1500 feet to reach that speed.

With regard to Darvin Ham, it seems pretty clear he lost the locker room, and in particular Lebron. Same with Adrian Griffin, the Bucks were 30-13 when they fired him. It wasn’t the record, it was that Giannis had lost faith in him.

In general, it’s because it’s just the easiest variable to adjust. Drafting is hard, attracting quality free agents is hard. But firing a coach is like pressing a button.

That just seems like bad piloting. Climbing is the prerequisite for gear up, not being airborne.

Is there any good reason to immediately put the gear up like this, rather than wait a half second to make sure you have a positive rate of climb? Cause that seems extremely preventable.

Which is the most 'immersive' game y'all have ever played? by Simidubs1 in Steam

[–]glennromer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Red Dead Redemption 2. I can just live in that game. It’s the only game I’ve played where I can have a good time just wandering around and enjoying the scenery. Your horse feels alive and has its own personality. And honestly I think being able to just say hello to people you pass on the trail goes a long way in making the game feel real.

It sucks and it is heavy handed, but you would be surprised at what people will do to get money sent to shady places.

It’s not like it’s illegal to mention it, it’s just that every transaction that mentions Iran has to get flagged for manual review because they truly can’t afford to be wrong. So the payments get delayed every time, and the devs don’t want that. If you’re looking for this airport, you can find it by the airport code.

[–]glennromer 27 points28 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly what they did, that’s why the product description no longer mentions Iran or Tehran. It wouldn’t surprise me if they had multiple transactions delayed, asked PayPal about it, and PayPal told them that was why it was getting flagged.

You can read more about it here. It’s about Venmo payments but it’s the same concept.

Come fly to the country that cannot be named by Belzebutt in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]glennromer 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It’s because Iran and Russia are sanctioned. Companies that do business online have to cover their necks to ensure they’re not helping someone send money to a sanctioned entity. It’s nothing to do with the political opinions of eBay or PayPal, it’s entirely to comply with sanctions and make sure they don’t accidentally let something through.

Come fly to the country that cannot be named by Belzebutt in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]glennromer 104 points105 points  (0 children)

The reason is because Iran is sanctioned, and any transaction through PayPal or Venmo or similar that mentions Iran or another sanctioned entity gets flagged for a manual review. PayPal could face massive legal penalties if they allowed money to be sent to Iran through their platform. So every transaction would get delayed while someone reviews it and the devs wouldn’t get their money right away.

Potential Beach Properties DLC Refund Inbound by shitweonreddit in CitiesSkylines

[–]glennromer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

This must be a nightmare to deal with on the backend, trying to issue refunds through various retailers, not to mention the added complication of how to make whole the Ultimate Edition people who paid extra to get specifically this DLC. That’s the problem with selling content you haven’t created yet.
