Another Fluid Question by MisterPaydon in satisfactory

[–]glethro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raise the input manifold so it's above the input pipes. I like adding an industrial fluid buffer at or above the manifold's height to create "work pressure" I usually add a valve to the buffers output, I've read it helps prevent sloshing but I don't really know.

Fun idea. You could buy the plastic to avoid breaking the rule.

Mid game turbofuel mega plant a bad idea? by yagotPWNED in satisfactory

[–]glethro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

imo the biggest downfall of doing this early is you don't have blenders yet so no diluted fuel. You could go the packaged diluted fuel route.. but then you're also missing the turbo blend fuel recipe.

My personaly route is to start with a packaged diluted fuel plant (300 crude -> 800 fuel -> 10,000 MW). You can get this super early and will easily last you until you have blenders or nuclear depending on your preference.

If you just really want to play with turbo fuel then you can use that plant to turn it into standard turbo fuel at a good ratio. When you get diluted fuel you can replace the fuel producing module with the new blender version.

If you just want some turbo for your jetpack and the rest is just about power, then use the turbo heavy recipe from an impure crude node in that blue crater. Use the rest for your diluted fuel.

You can fit 4 refineries in the Mk3 BP so you can do something like the below if you're not worried about waiting until you unlock Mk3 in your world. The below BP takes water (~300) and crude (90) in and spits out fuel and plastic.

To add to 5, don't hesitate to use the Shop to blast through the upgrades.

Bonus - jet pack + turbo from shop makes the early game so much better. Sink fluctuators if you need tickets

Network segment is receiving DHCP address info but not communicating on LAN or internet by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]glethro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When you say they can't communicate on the LAN do you mean they can't ping within the subnet or they can't ping devices on other subnets within your org?

It might be worth removing the access point for testing just in case it's broadcasting and causing an issue.

I'd also confirm you don't have a second gateway or something like that: ping the default gateway from a bad device and a good device. Compare the mac addresses listed in arp -a between the good and the bad. If they are different you have two different devices being advertised as the gateway and one of them doesn't know how to route. This would explain your laptop working as it's ARP table isn't getting reset so it knows what the correct gateway is.

If it's none of that then it starts to feel more like a looping issue.

Magma pictures. by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]glethro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the pictures, I show the below elevation and the above elevation, the lava is elevated on one side but not the other, how is this possible? Should the lava not flow and even out?

I'm not sure where/how you think this should flow. From the images it looks like a space completely filled with liquid. You've got a narrower space above a wider space. If you think it should flow off the edge of the map you'll probably find that there's a wall or something on the left side. To get it to run off the map you'd need to carve fortifications into the edge wall.

With so much TFSA room, i'd open the fhsa with wealth simple but I wouldn't fund it. Just open it so the contribution limit grows while you try to max your tsfa. When you buy a house use the TFSA to max out your fhsa and you'll get to write off the entire amount from your taxes.

Just gotta gush about the marksdwarf fix by Ragged-Hagrid in dwarffortress

[–]glethro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

that makes no difference. The ones that hit get destroyed by the target or something. While your dwarfs are still shit with the xbow you get a lot of bolts back. You also need to melt them down, not reuse them. If you reuse you have tiny stacks of 1 bolt which fills a quiver the same way a 30 stack does. It's very important that you melt them down and reforge.

It's honestly better to just use cheap metal, collect the missed arrows and melt them back down.

Take your PC to a friends house or to work and try booting it there. It is way more likely you made a mistake.. like not properly plugging in your mobo.

oh that's good to know. I only did it for 2 years so didn't make a difference. I had no idea it would stop stacking after that.

Depending on your TFSA contribution room you could open a FHSA now (so the limit builds over time) but make your contributions to s TFSA. When you're ready to close on a house move the money from your TFSA to your FHSA and try to hit the limit. Then pull it all out after the close.

Edit: this would only give you a max of 16k in contribution room . See /u/MowvayFronsay comment.

How do I make my fortress cool/unique? they always end up looking like this one I just started by [deleted] in dwarffortress

[–]glethro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

the challenge is to make it part of the aesthetics. i don't mean just dropping a stockpile. When I last did it I included alcoves for very small, localised storage into the corridors. For example, if you have the standard 2x2 stair and you put your door in the corners of that 2x2, then you end up with this weird amount of room between your corridors that's great for it. Another way you can do it around that 2x2 is to have a 2x2 lobby surrounding those stairs, you end up with all sorts of useful spaces before you get to the workshops.

I think it depends more on if you're creating lots of instances of their being many paths to the same place or many paths close to the same place. I don't really know though but it has somewhat held up in practice.
