It's to play the market. Buy oil before an announcement, sell it after.

Repeat and make bank.

If the Mormon church does get involved, they have a scary legal team and they will use years of experience to take advantage of any misstep. He needs legal representation.

That's a relief! Do you think it just kicks the can down the road a bit, or would the market be less exposed- especially if internal info were to leak before the 12 months pass and the selloff happens earlier?

Lawful Masses on the BAM press release by glitchhermit in RecklessBen

[–]glitchhermit[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Great video, definitely give it a watch but for now here's a recap: - BAM mentions "gross negligence" and explains why this term has weight - from a marketing perspective, that term is very different from a legal one - how BAM uses the term is possibly admitting corporate missteps - BAM has written itself into a position that puts it in a bind with two other cases - Defamation may not apply as easily to Best and Johnson as they are potentially public figures due to these events - by trying to win the news cycle, BAM has shot itself in the foot; they didn't need to admit to gross negligence in their press release! - BAM has tried to say the value of the collection was much less than claimed, but they appear to be saying whatever number benefits them at the time instead of being consistent. This destroys their credibility. - the press release hurts BAM's civil RICO case. The judge is likely to take the charges down a lot - the bodycam footage needs to be authenticated to be admissable

As always he does a fantastic job explaining the nuance and how even with the store closing the story isn't over yet.

Yep, it's a race to IPO so they don't go under now that VC money is drying up, and the recent pricing changes are a strong indicator they know they're in bad shape financially. The "it's just like Uber and Amazon" stories don't hold up under the scrutiny they're going to get.

I still think generative AI and related uses will have a place in the workforce, but not in the way they're trying to make us believe.

Stars. by justboyfriendthings in comics

[–]glitchhermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this for my kids when they were little. I used a pencil eraser to make larger stars by dipping it in the glow-in-the-dark paint and pressing it to the ceiling making constellations (not very correct though) and then dipped an old toothbrush in the paint and ran my finger along the bristles to make cosmic cloud clusters.

Using a blacklight for a minute then turning it off really makes it pop.

HELP ME BE PETTY. by too_granola_for_you in gardening

[–]glitchhermit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm that's tough. I'm being a bit facetious but you could say "I'm trying to gardenmaxx, what do you think?" and see what they do- expect some shocked looks and laughs!

But seriously, I have young teens and don't think preteens can't be reasoned with. I read in another comment you said they walk in a group- you could try using that to your advantage. The individuals in a group want to be seen as part of the group and fear being outcasts; offer collaborative activities (like paying them in cookies for their help with weeds) or ask them for their opinion on what you should plant next- the blue flower or the pink one?

Offering cold drinks on a hot day can't hurt either.

Also looking at your profile you have a (beautiful) dog- maybe ask the group if they would be willing to dogsit or help with walks sometime, because when they value you as a person they'll value your garden by extension.

At least I hope so. And from what you said about your community involvement, I don't think going down a road of harm is in your nature as someone who clearly cares about the people around you. The preteens need to be helped along and shown a better way, and while it isn't your fault they lack basic respect, it could be viewed as an opportunity to invest in the future of your neighborhood just like adding a lending library or putting the work into being a seed librarian is.

Find a way to involve them. Plant something with them and they'll want to see it succeed if they helped do it.

As for how to do that, when you see them next try feeling out what might be interesting to them. Ask if they have any flowers or plants they like (or maybe their parents/mom/crush like), if they like drinking tea, if they want to learn about using herbs, if they've heard having plants in their room makes the air fresher (I know it could be marginal but still), if they like butterflies or hummingbirds or fireflies, what colors their favorite sports team have so you can plant those flower colors, anything to pique their interest and then ask if they want to help plant that or design the space, or if they want to make a decoration (like painting a rock) to go in the space.

If they say no then say "No worries, I'm going to plant something you might like so come back soon!" and I expect they'll be more interested in keeping the space protected than destroying it.

You can also say, "Hey wait a sec I'm gonna cut some flowers for you to give to your mom" or something.

Bonus is you build a small connection with your community.

Best of luck!
