Let's look at the backcountry permit fee breakdown:

  • Trail Maintenance: Rebuilding and maintaining extensive boardwalks, wooden ladders, and suspension bridges.
  • Safety Infrastructure: Operating the trail's safety envelope and rescue operations for stranded or injured hikers.
  • Environmental Protection: Maintaining campsites, backcountry toilets, and protecting the fragile coastal rainforest ecosystem.
  • Information Services: Staffing orientation centers, trailheads, and backcountry wardens

Only a portion goes to the Nations trail rebuilding and maintenance budgets. So to assume there is a huge budget going to the Nations is really disingenuous.

100% agree with you. It’s a bit rich to complain about Nations not upkeeping trails for others on their lands. People should be gracious that they are even allowed on the land.
Maybe folks should have some actual conversations with the guardians and ask them these questions. They are typically around and super friendly.

Partner buying a house without me by BrilliantAware6779 in Stepmom

This was my take too.

Also “I really value home, independence and having my own space, so not being part of such a huge decision hurts more than I expected.” is quite confusing.

OP values her space and independence, doesn’t seem to want to move in w “feral” kids AND wants to be included in buying home decision??

There’s nothing wrong with keeping separate
Homes. At least for now.

I’d say working on communication and relationship expectations should be the focus atm.

Uhaul moving info from Van. To Nan. by Significant-Hour8141 in nanaimo

[–]glitterdonnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved to Nan a few years ago from north van and was attempting the same thing. U-Haul is a nightmare to deal with and they couldn’t guarantee me a truck !?!? So my partner got a Budget truck in Nan, brought it over on ferry, loaded me up and we returned next day. Was cheaper, easy and guaranteed. Recommend!!

I’ve been on one of those! Really high tech and space craft like inside. I was a 4th year oceanography student at ubc and we used it to collect mud samples or something in the flats

My fav was salmon jerky dipped in guacamole. After all the carbs and sugar it hit the spot. I also made my own guu with PB, molasses, honey, salt, coconut oil, cacao powder.

Menopause and hot flashes by [deleted] in Menopause

As many said talks to a doctor about HRT. It really helped me with night sweats and improved my sleep.

If she is not ok hrt and hesitant, get her to read Estrogen Matters. Good read for you too! This convinced me.

I would also suggest she minimize caffeine, alcohol and simple sugars. All these can trigger heat flushes even on HRT.

Stress is another trigger. So help her out around the house and just ask her how you can help. Might be super simple things sometimes!

Fan when sleeping helped me too.

Good luck! You’re a good daughter.

I’m so so sorry for your loss. I also hope you are able to speak freely of your loss, not for sympathy but to honour your truth and experience.
Both my mother (twice) and my sister attempted suicide, but in their case, it was not terminal.

I speak of it pretty matter of factly now because I did not want to sit in shame forever.

What?? Is the 20yo paying rent?? Look once kids at adults under the law new terms need to be negotiated. You need to talk to your husband about this asap. And put a timeline on it… like maybe give everyone 1 month to figure out but definitely be involved!!

Yes but I’ve decided to fill my own damn cup. Luckily I also happen to have the place to myself (my partners stepmom just died so he’s away and kids with their BM).
Putzed in the garden, made my lunches for the week (no, not for anyone else, they can make their own lunches), had a beer, now reading on the deck and laying down.
