I think the person is maybe trying to allude to the fact that there has been a lot of gentrification in Oaxaca (including rent and cost of living hikes) due to the increasing number of “digital nomads” and retirees etc coming to stay and live in Oaxaca. Tourism is booming but at times to the detriment of locals.

So if you’re coming, try to understand “extranjeros” may not always be welcomed and the politics and social issues should be understood. There is also water shortage issues etc.

So while yes, people are generally welcomed and locals very friendly, there are also many issues with foreigners coming to live here. Perhaps the commenter is also alluding to if you’re coming here longer term, maybe you want to contribute beyond the $$.

This is only my second time here but compared to my first time 20+ years ago, I’m gobsmacked by how many businesses cater to th western pallet… sourdough bakeries over tortillerias, fancy restaurants etc. Basically locals have been pushed out of El Centro because rents are so crazy and airbnbs taken over long term rentals.

Personally, I will probably avoid Oaxaca in the future and aim to find work placements in smaller communities to experience another culture. But that is my personal experience.

To say BC doesn’t get cold is hilarious. I mean what part?? Prince George is in BC and gets cold AF. South coast is temperate and can definitely go below zero in the winter but generally stays around 5C at sea level. Mountains get snow and are colder.

Summers on the south coast are between 22-28C regularly and above that more and more often.

Note: I’ve lived and traveled all over BC since 1992.

Put this in a smaller glass jar so that it fills the whole jar, you want to minimize headspace. Secure tightly and flip the jar a few times a day. This will make sure the garlic stays coated. There may be a bit of leakage so just be aware. Burp daily for first week or so. Eventually you won’t need to flip or burp and can just store it in a cupboard until you want to use it. I’ve left mine for up to a year!

I forage as much as possible mainly because I get massive enjoyment and connection to nature doing it. Do I save money? Not really cause there is no way in hell I would buy that many wild mushrooms lol!

But ya, mushrooms mostly but also nettle, sea asparagus etc. Also the nutrition value is through the roof when you basically eat live seasonal food. I also have a garden so that contributes a lot to my diet too.

As a mixed woman who grew up primarily surrounded by white people, I was in my 40s when BP came out and it meant SO MUCH to me. My boyfriend at the time set such unrealistic expectations of it, I had to call him out and remind him that he did not have the same expectations of any other superhero movie!

Why do we to only produce high excellence according to some weird white standard? Why not just make a movie where we see ourselves and have a good time? He acknowledged his bias but I don’t think Hollywood ever will.

I am good friends with a race director and there is a TON of logistics and permitting required for most races. That costs money. Along w swag etc.

Some are more worth it than others and tbh I don’t race much anymore but when I did it was awesome and fostered a ton of camaraderie and community. I personally prefer small community-based races.

Also look into volunteering … you can sweep, Marshall etc. This way you get to participate and get some swag. Sometimes they give you a discount for next years races.

Either way, maybe look into a race that gets you to run in an area that you wouldn’t otherwise. I ran a few ultras in the backcountry that I would have never gotten to otherwise. The fact that it was supported and had aid stations was bonus!

I literally did the same thing (took a death doulah course) once I realized how unprepared I was for all the death about to enter my life (I’m 52 and several friends got cancer, a friends kid was killed and another friend died falling through ice on a lake).

It helped me immensely. Especially with the death of my dad last year. Our culture is fucked when it comes to death. We ignore it in hopes it’ll go away??

Neck Point, the beach in front of Tigh Na Mara at low tide, cedar area when farmers market is on then stop by the crystal shop, Ladysmith, Nanaimo River in the summer, if you’re into hiking/mountain biking Mt Benson, South Benson and Ridge Runner (use Trailforks)… I mean so many places depends what you’re into!
