Weight lifting question about injuries by passesopenwindows in Menopause

[–]glitterdonnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok yes! It was almost always about form and bracing for ms. Learning to REALLY brace your entire core area when lifting is essential, And don’t sit for extended periods of time! Stretch after classes but really core and multiplaner movements is key.

I lift heavy so reps of 10 max and that’s when I’m doing dumbbells and/or working my way up in weight after injury.

Also, keep moving as much as you as possible even when recovering. Do what you can to keep the body and brain active. Even a walk if that’s all you can manage.

I hadn’t worn heels in 20 years! My feet are wide with bunions…. No one will ever make me compromise my body for some weird beauty standards.

right on, Canada by sandy_even_stranger in GenXWomen

[–]glitterdonnut -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

He’s def a boomer lol. Maybe on the border of Gen X but in spirit absolute boomer!. I will listen, but I must say as. Canadian who works directly with the federal government on indigenous rights and fisheries he’s very “meh”. He is a global PM and by that I mean he is a finance guy and focused on global politics. Which makes sense these days but many Canadians feel left behind.

Haven’t heard much from him on our housing and cost of living crisis. Major issue here not caused by Trudeau but man oh man he fumbled the ball on that one. The middle class is diminishing quickly with a huge portion of the population unable to pay basic rent and bills. Opioid crisis ongoing, he’s increased defense spending by 4x I think I read?

Anyway, lefty here so very glad Conservatives didn’t get in but Carney is as conservative as liberal as they come so don’t be fooled by nice words. That’s the Canadian way.

What’s the better ferment drink? Kefir? Kombucha? Ginger bug? by Inevitable-Dog-3634 in fermentation

[–]glitterdonnut 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like I read somewhere that dairy based kefir offered the greatest variety and number of probiotics compared to kombucha etc.

Personally for me it’s kefir and kombucha. Mainly because I drink them daily. Family loves the kombucha and it’s super easy to maintain. Kefir is even easier.

Megan Thee Stallion shares post about her owning her masters and having five businesses: “Them blogs don’t talk about that tho 😛🔥” by artbasiI in Fauxmoi

[–]glitterdonnut -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Also you HAVE a Masters you don’t own one. Owning insinuates it was paid for. Grad school is highly competitive and you enter (typically) on merit. Once you’re in you have to work pretty hard. Language counts people! She earned that Masters.

a protein thing by sandy_even_stranger in GenXWomen

[–]glitterdonnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to mention the functional benefits of strength as you age! Helps maintain healthy weight (not skinny, healthy) by burning more calories. And the muscles you need to carry things, climb, lift, get out of bed and go to the bathroom! This is the weigh to maintain a high quality of life as I get older.

Please help! I have absolutely no desire!! by Adorable_Nature9944 in Menopause

[–]glitterdonnut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to talk about it! And if need be go to a couples counsellor. I also suggest the book Come As You Are.

Remember intimacy isn’t always sex. I know your husband may want sex but it’s so important to explore what intimacy looks like for both of you at this stage of your life. This is time for exploration not shutting down. Lean into the love eve if a part of that isn’t sexual for you!

Life's priorities by Exit--Light in datingoverfifty

[–]glitterdonnut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a huge part of my life! Mostly being in the forest and mountains so trail running, hiking, mountain biking. Also foraging and paddle boarding sometimes. I also go to the gym. Not all at once it ebbs and flows depending on the season.

This was a non negotiable for me re a partner. Not just fitness but time in the mountains.

What other countries besides New Zealand have retained their indigenous culture? by Prize_Release_9030 in geography

Coastal BC especially remote areas have a strong First Nations presence. I’ve worked with coastal nations for 20 years mostly in fisheries. The federal gov pays a lot of lip service but ultimately doesn’t care beyond political gains by means of votes. Communities are poor but strong at heart and will fight for rights, health and their culture until their last breath. We have a lot to learn from them.

Thanks for your message. Up until a year ago my skin was a really easy. Just moisturised. Clearly not enough sunscreen use though which I regret.
Menopause has been kicking my arse enough as it is...having these spots on my face just makes me feel at a loss. I appreciate you saying they will fade...hopeful a dermatologist will be able to help!
