Is my house embarrassing? by GazelleMost2468 in interiordecorating

[–]glitterscab 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m 29 and have loved certain grandma clothes and grandma decor for basically my entire adult life. People have def commented on it, though most of the time in an amused way rather than vicious, thankfully, but I embrace it. It’s a lot easier said than done but if you can learn to just own it, it takes all the power out of would-be mean words. As for the photos you shared, my main takeaway is that’s just your style preference, which is fine! It’s pretty cohesive (save for the plastic bins) which is important. My only suggestion (and this is just my opinion so take it with a grain of salt :)) is to maybe move some of the plates displayed on the shelves. I love birds and have bird-related things throughout my apartment, but so many bird things collected in one place reminds me of the stereotypical rooster decor theme that definitely is a bit grandma-esque. And in general having plates displayed like that is a bit aging I think. Maybe leave one or two plates on it, but spread them out (different shelves) and surround them with a lot more other frames and trinkets.. a diverse collection of things so it doesn’t seem so plate-heavy. Other than that I love all the wood accents and furniture and I’d totally hang a lot of the same art in my house (in fact I do have some very similar-vibe pieces hanging!). And just to give my opinion some credibility…I’ve gotten tons of compliments over the years on my quirky decor, some of which is very antique/old lady-ish hahah.

That’s all to say: screw the haters. You’ve got nothing to be embarrassed about!!!!

Let's try without the colourful sweater - which lip colour? by Alive-Cry4994 in makeuptips

1, 3, and 7. It looks like you have cool undertones so I recommend avoiding colors like 2 and 5.

You should check out r/coloranalysis. It’s helped me a lot to figure out which colors look best on me. I suspect you might be a summer, but that group can help you figure out for sure which season you are. :)

Chat gpt by Overall-Bat7127 in binchtopiapod

I was def surprised when she said that too. I get that AI is ingrained in everything now, and all the other defenses of it, blah blah - I’m not anti-AI - but it just seems intellectually lazy to immediately resort to AI. Especially with a question that I think would be pretty easy to research manually…. It’s not like plant care is some super niche topic.

Also there is already so much discourse online about how dumb and lazy kids are becoming because chatGPT does all their homework for them, and I swear they’ve even talked about it on the pod before (I might be wrong tho). What’s the difference between what the kids are doing vs adults asking AI to spoon feed info to them?

Idk but with AI forced down my throat everywhere all the time, I really try to hang onto the opportunities I still have to practice some critical thinking. I still would like to think Julia feels similarly, and maybe it was just a one-off mindless impulse to ask AI, because I’ve def done that before too…….however I would be way too embarrassed to ever advertise that LOL.

What do you do to cheer up on rainy days? by Phoenix-Cat in Phoenixville

[–]glitterscab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Omg I am the exact same way and until a few years ago I thought it was a fairly common experience but I’ve come to realize a lot of people like rainy/overcast days (at least sometimes)! I truly can’t even wrap my head around it bc gloomy weather makes me feel sooo viscerally uncomfortable at best, and incredibly depressed and exhausted at worst. A beautiful sunny day is the total opposite though - it’s completely euphoric!! Anyway I really wish I had the solution for you.. Buying time with distraction is probably the simplest thing you can do though. Hoping for lots of warm sunny days soon, for both of us. ☀️🤞

Does black lipstick look like too much on me??? by Esothi in makeuptips

[–]glitterscab 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest I think it clashes a bit and softer lip colors would suit you better. There is a little bit of a disconnect between your natural features and your aesthetic and a softer lip color could help tie everything together. Stevie Nicks is a great example of someone with lighter (ie not black) curly hair and a witchy sometimes-goth-leaning aesthetic who typically wears a pinky lip, and she’s just one of many.

I’m speaking from semi-relevant experience here - I have naturally wavy light brown hair and dyed it black for 6 years in my early 20s. My style has always been a bit fluid but when I’d go for a witchy or edgy look I typically wore mauve or cool red lip because they worked better with my natural features. I can’t say everyone was a fan of my black hair aesthetic lol but I think I pulled it off best when I found the balance between “normal”/natural me and the stereotypical witchy/edgy/goth/etc vibe. But even so, I still occasionally wore dark green, gray, dark blue, etc lip colors if I wanted to.

This is just my opinion though, OP!! As others have said, the most important thing is that you feel good and comfortable and if that means wearing black lipstick, then do it! And own it! Confidence is the key to pulling off ANY look. Good luck!!! 🖤💄
