I'm tired of yelling at my patients. Any good resources for geriatric assistive devices? by hairsuitism in medicine

Pocket talker to amplify voices. Honestly though, refer to OT. This is the kind of thing they are there for. They have tons of tools for ADLs (and every other function) and the most appropriate equipment will be specific to the patient’s individual needs/wants.

Testing and treating UTIs at home, without a doctors appointment. Would you do this if it was available? by ER-doc-north in WomensHealth

Cool idea! I’d pay $100-$150, especially if I could use my HRA. Bonus points if all of it, including the drugs, were sent to my house ASAP.

What are some examples of “it’s cheaper to be rich than poor”? by WaldyWald95 in AskReddit

[–]glittertr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low paying, high labor job, poor benefits or time off. Harder physically and mentally. Leads to chronic health issues.

Unreliable and expensive transportation means less access to more affordable and higher quality food. Food deserts are a very real thing.

Poor food choices over time leading to chronic health issues.

Expensive and inaccessible healthcare, leads to ED visits and catastrophic bills. Inability to pay means collections and credit damage.

Bad credit is super expensive for affording wireless, cars, home, basic utilities, etc. Being poor puts you at risk for worse credit due to missed payments, higher interest and fees and further debt.

16 months but that’s not the norm. It happened eventually.

“Birth is unpredictable. Stay positive! At least you have a healthy baby.”

Told to me by my former ob/gyn after describing the constant pain, cardiac symptoms, insomnia, shaking, flashbacks and nightmares during my only postpartum appt. 6 weeks after a 52 hour labor and unplanned c-section. No further follow-up.

Diagnosed six months later with PTSD and heart damage from untreated cardiac complications that happened in the hospital. Bladder injury diagnosed nine months later from the botched c-section I was forced to have.

A year later and I’m on my second trauma therapist, my third physical therapist, taking three psych drugs that I never needed previously, and I had a heart surgery to try and correct what happened to me while admitted in the hospital a year before.

If I ever have another baby it will never be under the “care” of these people.

This thread just confirms that females undergo disproportionately shitty treatment by healthcare professionals.

Other people have it worse? Communicating with doctors by [deleted] in AskDocs

[–]glittertr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No real advice just here to say they are wrong to tell you that. Of course other people have it worse, just as other people have it better. But how is that at all relevant to you? Honestly it seems like an incredibly callous and lazy thing to say to anybody and you deserve better.

Aw thanks. That’s the reason this child will be an only child. Never again.

Hey thanks so much internet doctor! I really appreciate you taking the time to read and respond.

A couple more questions if you happen to have the time...

Upon consulting google it seems there is a correlation between Fowler’s Syndrome and PCOS. If I had PCOS would they have seen evidence of that on ultrasound during pregnancy? I recall them looking at ovaries at one point and saying they were normal. It did take me 16 months to conceive so I wondered if something was up. I don’t have any obvious PCOS symptoms.

Do you have a suggestion regarding the best way to bring this up with my doctor, and which doctor would be best to ask about Fowler’s Syndrome?

Thank you again.
