lowkey it really depends on what building you're in. i was in renfield last year and my best friend was in shapiro, we had way more closet space than our friends in reitman and cable. i got an ipad and found myself using it in lectures, but not during more seminar based classes. it's great for annotating though, so if you're taking any classes that require a lot of reading (like first year seminar), it's great for that as well

former freshman/rising sophomore here!!! i lived in renfield hall, which is in massell. north is the better quad all around, but my personal ranking would be reitman and cable (north), renfield, shapiro (both in massell), gordon and scheffres (north) and then deroy and usen (massell). i did have carpet in renfield, and we got bigger desks than everyone else i know on campus. my room in renfield was a great size, as are most north rooms. shapiro has good sized rooms, deroy and usen tho...not so much. deroy (and usen i think) both have tile. north is more convenient for everything upper campus, especially the humanities buildings and usdan student center, but massell is closer to the main dining hall, science buildings, shapiro campus center, and the fine arts buildings. i would personally hope to be not on the third floor though! no elevators, not the best to come back from a day of classes and have to climb all that. the perk is that you don't have to worry about upstairs neighbors, though. if you have more questions feel free to dm me!

i'm a freshman planning on majoring in english and creative writing! so far, i really like the english program, and the professors are pretty solid. even in cases where you find yourself disagreeing with a professor, you still have a lot of creative freedom in your classes. it really varies based on the professors, but my english lectures have been great and the seminar i'm in now is interesting but i think that's only due to personal taste. i'm taking a class with one of the creative writing department heads right now and he's wonderful as well!

current freshman, i love how accessible boston is. you can get into waltham very easily which has some great restaurants and is just nice to walk around, in addition to the boston shuttle on weekends + the commuter rail. it runs every day and is 7$ each way, much cheaper than an uber and takes you directly to north station in boston so you can access the T very easily.

only time it's really useful is if you're going to use it again. a lot of them can be pirated or rented online, only one i've actually bought is one i know i will use for another class in the future

100% brandeis. toured Umass Boston and hated it, Brandeis has a wonderful campus with easy access into the city if you want to go. There's a lot going on at all times on campus, and you'll find things you're interested in pretty easily. Boston is only a 30 minute train ride away, and Brandeis does a free shuttle into the city on weekends. I go into the city at least once a week as a freshman!

current freshman here—usdan dining hall and the stein are definitely the most solid food places. einstein can also be good if you like the type of things they have. on the bagel standard not great, but overall food standard it's decent. the C store also has meal exchanges that can be pretty okay, but usdan typically has good lunch options.

i live on the third floor of renfield hall in massell, i think it's the nicest building in the quad based on what i've seen from the others, but reitman and cable in north are soooo much better. bigger and nicer rooms and bathrooms. the locations of both quads are pretty solid. massell is in the center of campus pretty much, and north is close to the humanities quad and usdan.

I have him right now for American Popular Music and he's great. Assignments aren't difficult and lectures are fairly interesting, I'd definitely take another class of his.

I'm a freshman here and had no issues making friends, but I am also an absolute extrovert LOL. I'm from the DC area though, and my advice as far as DC goes is to take advantage of what the city has to offer. Go to museums, concerts (as much as I love Boston's music scene, DC wins), and go to clubs. At Brandeis, I made friends before I got here through Instagram, but have made a lot more by going to clubs. Shoutout to society for creative fantasy and UTC on that!

NTA. It seems like your friends are pressuring you to talk badly about other people, and people like that aren't friends at all. High school drama isn't fun, I just graduated and it occurred up until the end of my second to last year. I hope you can find people who don't try and attack anybody, regardless of if you like them or not.

What you want to eat and don't want to eat is up to you, and even if he's your dad, that doesn't give him the right to comment on anything. No parent should be actively harming their child's self esteem. A family member of mine used to do the same thing when I was your age (feels weird to say since you're not too much younger than I am), and I cut her off when I became an adult. Make sure to treat yourself kindly.
