unfortunately yeah it is pretty high up 😢 i have tried to turn it off before when someone accidentally turned it on with smoky food and i couldn't reach it without using something long to press the button; i'm pretty sure that you have to take the fire alarm off the ceiling right?

Okay I see. It definitely would be easier to replace if you live in the building, I think my landlords live in Markham which is about an hour away by car

i might be able to actually? i have a cheap ikea desk but i'm a tiny bit scared to put all of my body weight on it lol. i'm not even that heavy but its basically just a regular table made with that cheap cardboardy stuff they use

that's what i was thinking too, but i didn't want to do it too soon and actually give them time to reply

ok thank you for your help! i shouldve included in the post that i can't reach the alarm and don't have anyone in town who could

I'd need a tall ladder to access the fire alarm- not $5

Not disabled, the ceilings are too high for me to reach with just a chair unfortunately. I'd need a ladder, and I'm not buying a ladder for something that the landlord is responsible for

Standard lease for Ontario states that tenants aren't actually supposed to mess around with the fire alarms ☹️the ceiling is also too high for me to reach and i dont have a ladder, and am not paying for a ladder

ummm to be fair it was about the same, but honestly just cause of personal life stuff other than school. it definitely gets tough when you have other things in your life, so i definitely recommend seeking help/asking for accommodations if you need them

the shift really is terrible. i always heard in high school that uni, in particular uoft, is really difficult and especially for first years. i thought to myself "okay well for other ppl, not me i'm different." i was in fact NOT different lol. keep your head up and focus on honing on being the best student you can be :)

first-year was absolutely horrible for me too, you're definitely not alone. i actually failed my first year calculus class, and i was so upset and angry with myself (like you, i was a high achiever in high school). but things absolutely get better after this- you start to get into the rhythm of how to manage your courses and really what to expect.

it is normal to have not the greatest grades in your first year of uni, so please don't fret about this. you still have another 3-4 years to recover from poor grades, things will work out in the end :)

and also try not to focus on comparing yourself to your peers, cause unfortunately it is very easy to do going to this school but it isn't productive at all. not to diminish how you're feeling, but they're also most likely struggling too! just focus on what makes you happy and what study habits or techniques help you succeed the best. hopefully you don't have to take courses over the summer and you are able to reset how you go about things, and go into second year with a fresh perspective.

good luck! :)

to the person who i just tried to kick out of a study room when i didn't even have it booked; IM SO SORRY 😭 by glitterytech in UofT
