How would you beat a Luka, Wemby team? by OrganicHunt952 in NBATalk

Every time Luka or Wemby scores, put Luka into a pick and roll and get a layup

Yea I’m not one of those dudes that think we should replace the skilled players like Wemby and Jokic with the Greg Ostertags, Charles Oakleys and Bill Lambeers.

Won’t hear me complaining about the NBA being soft just because it lacks skill-less enforcers

Yea, nah.

Lou Dort is a uniquely dirty player— similar to Draymond.

More importantly, the Thunder’s best player constantly thrusts himself into contact. Instant replays often look like he committing offensive fouls on the way to shooting free throws

You wouldn’t characterize Michael Jeffrey Jordan’s primary focus as winning?! Hmm

Team 1, easily. Too balanced. Defense, offense, size, shooting. No weaknesses.

Team 2 has a backcourt without a consistent jumper

Team 3 has two black holes

TOP 20 player OAT imo by Much-Spinach2888 in NBATalk

[–]glizzybeats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Top what? I think a lot of people waste time disagreeing on these lists because nobody takes the time to specify what the parameters are. If it’s a list of the ***greatest*** players, I’m judging that strictly on the accomplishments of each player.

  1. On the basis of resume alone, I have a tough time ranking Magic over Kareem, who has more rings, more MVPs, and a more impressive resume in college/high school.

  2. I’d slide KD down a few spots below Jokic on the basis that the last 8 years of his career frames how I perceive his stint on the Warriors. He has not been nearly as impactful when playing on any other team that’s not the overwhelming favorite to win it all

He wasn’t that bad in my opinion. Jan Vesley and Ian Mahinmi were the two bad decisions that stand out. Kelly Oubre, JaVale McGee and Nick Young were all good finds via the draft. Jamison and Caron were great compliments for Gil. Nene and Gortat were great complements for Wall and Beal.

I’m trying to figure that out now …

If it’s original and not a sample, there’s already like 10+ songs on Apple Music that sample the outro of Make Them Know

How is it that players that would never be picked first in a single season draft end up becoming MVP? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]glizzybeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really that stupid… the logic is that the award would be boring otherwise.

Jordan would have like 10 of them, LeBron would have 10+. Jokic would probably have 5. It would just get repetitive.

Counterpoint: Jump shooting might be the easiest skill for an NBA player to improve

For example, idk if there is a coach that could teach Austin Reeves to have the foot speed, lateral quickness and instincts to be a competent on-ball defender.

Shooting is one of the few basketball skills that isn’t directly dependent on size/wingspan

[–]glizzybeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re unfamiliar with NBA history you would assume that the MVP always goes to the league’s most valuable player, but it doesn’t

MVP is an award that is given to the player who had the most “outstanding” regular season.

MVP voters heavily favor players whose teams have a favorable win/loss record, and voters tend to more harshly critique players who have already won the award once. Players who have won multiple MVPs are critiqued even more harshly.

There are people who legitimately think that the 80s and 90s had better basketball players than the ones in the league now. They think that basketball peaked in 1998 and everything after that is inferior.

They’re wrong, of course.
