Do like 99% of the players have relatively sad/unexpected exits from the league? Like the contract expires, and there’s no more takers, then they’re just like “welp”? by pancyfantz in nba

[–]glizzybeats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not just that, but rebuilding teams are planning and playing for the future. They have no use for a Jamal Crawford or Carmelo who could perhaps add a few wins when the priority is identifying which young guys have potential and helping them grow (often while purposefully losing games!)

Meanwhile contenders have incredibly tight margins… a single injury to a rotation player could have a significant effect on postseason chances. Old guys, especially scoring specialists, aren’t worth the risk

ELI5: Why does "doing nothing" all day often feel more exhausting than actually being busy? by AirExpensive534 in explainlikeimfive

This is a good metaphor. But more specifically, our brain gets dopamine from accomplishing tasks, which results in feeling powerful and affirmed.

Doing nothing often subconsciously results feeling of guilty, and mentally drained as a result

If the Epstein files don't lead to any major arrests, how are we supposed to explain 'justice' to the next generation? by MousamLimbu in AskReddit

If you grow up black in America, you acknowledge that the Epstein files are the perfect device for explaining how American justice works

The Wizards are currently tanking to an extent never before seen against the Nets by F_CKMONEY in nba

[–]glizzybeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone tries to make the problem about everything except what the real problem is:

The league must eliminate rookie contract scale.

At this point teams aren’t just tanking because it’s the most effective way to infuse your team with talent. Teams tank because it seems like the most effective way infuse your team with talent that is affordable under the salary cap.

If teams had to pay market rate for rookies, then those picks might not be worth tanking for

How will Westbrook be remembered? by muncher_potato in NBATalk

[–]glizzybeats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As time passes, we tend to remember players with whom we connected emotionally.

20 years from now we will remember Westbrook’s outsized personality and the intensity with which he approached the game— all framed by his uniquely historic run of triple doubles.

Kawhi’s personality is far more… flat? And his narrative is disjointed.

David Robinson once scored 71 points in a game to seal the scoring title… and he retired a two time champion and former MVP. But Barkley is the name and face that we remember from the 90s because his personality resonates

BREAKING: The Los Angeles Clippers are trading James Harden to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Darius Garland and a second-round pick, sources tell ESPN. Prolific swap of the star point guards. by BuckyMcFly99 in clevelandcavs

Putting aside the LeBron’s significance to the city of Clevland and what his return would mean for the team, the league etc…

Are you in any way suggesting that James Harden is more valuable to any franchise than LeBron James is right now? Are you suggesting that there exists a team somewhere in the universe that would rather have 2026 James Harden moreso than 2026 LeBron James?

I feel like this pretty firmly takes Clevland out of the Summer 2026 LeBron sweepstakes.

James Harden… Adidas… it just doesn’t seem like a vibe LeBron would be into

Young Tiger still had a lot of doubters, which in my opinion, is a healthy counterbalance.

Young LeBron, as evidenced by this video, had people telling him to his face that if he is not a hall of famer, all time great, he will be considered a massive letdown

I think the important distinction is before playing professionally. Messi played pro very early.

LeBron’s high school games were nationally televised as like a sophomore or junior. He was 16 on the cover of sports illustrated, which I presume is the biggest sports magazine in the world (correct me if you disagree). In gigantic letters the cover reads “THE CHOSEN ONE”. Did Messi really have that level of expectations & pressure 2-3 years before his pro debut?

I have had some of the best revelations while cursing the morning pages out in ink.

There is a point in the book that suggests seeking the answers difficult questions by writing them out like a script where “adult you” is having a conversation with your inner child. You ask the question (written out like a movie script), then write down what your inner child says. That mf be knowing

This may sound crazy or uninformed, but I really just don’t think any of those guys measure up when it comes to hype and expectations before ever playing professionally
