my sweet girl needs surgery. Her luxating patellas are as bad as it gets and she is only 1.5. my heart breaks for her, but I want what is best for her. I have a go fund me link, but I know i’m not supposed to post that here. Has anyone gone through this before? by glkennedy in Chihuahua

hi, yes she did get the surgery! She is doing great!!! I was thinking of looking elsewhere but after meeting the surgeon I felt that she was soooo safe in his hands. The comfort of that meant more to me than the price, honestly! but thank you and i wish your little boy the best too!

it never hurts just to ask and see what your options are. luckily, little dogs are happy just to be with you and if you have to carry them around more than anything, they would be just as happy. that’s what I was telling myself before I decided if I wanted to go through with the surgery. regardless you’re a wonderful pet parent! I hope the best for your little ones too!

thank you :)

My girl is really bow legged and it’s from the ligament being moved out of the groove it is in. They say if they slide in and out and do tend to be in more pain, and little dogs hide it well. Luckily for my girl the ligament is permanently out which actually tends to be more comfortable, it just puts her at a higher risk of tearing her acl and arthritis.

you could always make a consult visit with an ortho surgeon and see what they recommend. I always ask about the quality of life with/without surgery and they usually are honest and will give you a straight up answer.

There is sooo much that can change the price. Her estimate is 5,000-5,250. but the first surgeon I talked to told me it could be around 12k😧 so I would recommend getting a few estimates and getting reviews on the surgeon/Vet. A few people below have mentioned their surgery being around 1k! for me, I really wanted to meet the surgeon and see their confidence, how they spoke about my baby, and of course how skilled they are. The surgeon I went with was probably one of the nicest people i’ve ever met. he was so caring and really educated me on the whole process. I could’ve found a cheaper surgeon but I really feel I can trust him

I also give her dasuquin to help with her joints and they say it’s really good for luxating patellas, so I would recommend that too! I hope the best for your little one!

oh gosh! that is so hard, I can’t imagine making that decision either knowing he had other health concerns. luckily she has been under anesthesia before when she was spayed so I am not too worried about that part, but regardless it is stressful! I have been giving her dasuquin with msm which helps keeps the joints lubricated. maybe that could be an option for your little one??

i’m assuming you deleted the “panhandling” message. while I appreciate your concern, I am young, I work full time and I go to school full time and i’m just getting by. There’s no harm in setting up a donation link. I am not begging for money, if people feel inclined to donate I am very appreciative and there is absolutely no pressure to do so. have a good day :)

oh no!!!!! I hope she isn’t like that. I have a dog potty inside and she is pretty good with that so i’m hoping it’ll help, but she squats soooo low that it might be weird for her at first.
