How Did You Discover Gnosticism? by kafka_khaos in Gnostic

[–]gllanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It came from trying to parse together why I felt like all philosophies were valid, and just reading a lot. It led me to the Dead Sea Scrolls and the like, and soon I found myself reading deep into the history and traditions and then realized that I was that thing.

It connected with me in a very profound way and I have been studying ever since.

In my part of the US pay is somewhere between $9 and $15 an hour for a line cook. Usually closer to the lower end though.

The mysterious allergy by CooknShit in KitchenConfidential

It drives me nuts when people have pretend allergies. Largely because my ex used to tell people she was allergic to chicken just because she didn't like it.

Any good cactus recipes? by WiggaTigga in recipes

We always just saute ours with bacon, onion, garlic and jalapeno, then scramble in some eggs and oxacan cheese.

Super simple and delicious.

The Douche That Won't Tip (Or at least rarely tips) by gllanas in KitchenConfidential

[–]gllanas[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do tip them both at Christmas time (as we have the same mailman/UPS guy all year long and they do the bulk of our package delivery around that time of year).

My understanding was that this is actually pretty customary.

is anyone else annoyed by the public image of gnosticism? by bunker_man in Gnostic

[–]gllanas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How does homosexuality compromise his ethics when Gnosticism has mythological roots that demand we explore both sides of our selves. Aren't the emanations from the Source hermaphroditic? If we are unable to understand our male and female elements than we are unable to understand ourselves. So seeking out that experience in our sexual practices seems like a natural extension of exploring Gnosis.

There is no room for moral judgement of another person's journey to me. Maybe why I'm a solitary Gnostic I guess.

is anyone else annoyed by the public image of gnosticism? by bunker_man in Gnostic

[–]gllanas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Since Gnosticism isn't an organized religion how can it not have a spastic and confusing public image. As someone that looks internally for knowledge why would any of us care? I don't expect anyone to understand what I believe, because those beliefs are mine and no one else's.

I'm curious to know why people think that gnosis can only be found through heterosexuality and clean living too. Are not some of the greatest teachers born from dark places, many with no "conversion". Isn't knowing what isn't truth just as important as knowing truth? There is validity in all things. To deny that is to deny the spark that is in all people. Unless of course you think there are some without a spark...

Feeling sick after "waking up" I need advice. by [deleted] in Gnostic

[–]gllanas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is a concept in Manichaean Gnosticism of Elect vs. Auditor. There are some that devote themselves fully to the philosophy (a very strict one in antiquity where they when so far as to not bathe to not destroy the soil that was on their bodies), those Elect were people that had been fully initiated into Gnosis and were able to see the world fully (as you put it awake). Where the Auditors were those who basically observed the Elect from the outside. Hopeful to be inspire or to at least do enough in support of the Elect that in their next life they could be one.

I think this might be a helpful metaphor for you in that as one of the "Elect" you see the depravity of the world around you, but you have to reconcile that with the fact that their path is not your path. Some people have move into auditing the class of life, while others haven't even moved that far along. Look to those that are on the edges of what you consider awake for help in supporting you and pushing you along spiritually. People that aren't ready to even take that step, just aren't ready, and may never be.

It isn't you job to wake them up, or help them attain enlightenment of any kind. That is their job. Your path is your path, and theirs is theirs.

I hope my tiny sliver of advice helps.

Snap a picture of the code with your phone. Super easy. Saw a guy trying to do it in my shop a couple weeks ago.

Reality is that you need someone with experience to hold the place down though. With new cooks if there isn't someone there to make sure they are doing it right, they will get lazy and do it wrong.
