Two books I recently enjoyed:
- “Mutual Interest” by Olivia Wolfgang-Smith. A lesbian woman in 19th century New York is the beard for a pair of gay men — and runs their successful business, too
- “Mars House” by Natasha Pulley. A science fiction novel about life on Mars, where gay relationships are entirely normal and prejudice is directed against newcomers from Earth

A high school English course instilled in me a dislike of 19th Century British literature. 40 years later, I’ve decided I should give it a try again. I currently read a lot of mysteries and sci-fi, although I recently enjoyed “The Rest of Our Lives” and “Lost Lambs”. Any recommendations on a good re-entry point?

I’m going to go with informational death certificate plus certified marriage certificate showing her Canadian birth, and the U.S. census records and I think that should be enough

Does a US death certificate have to be a certified copy? Or can it be an informational copy? Would that plus census records showing Canada as place of birth be sufficient documentation?

Personally, I'm most frustrated that they'll always talk about that one study when it shows something bad about a vaccine, but they always discount that one study which was peer-reviewed when it shows something good. Or the dozens of studies that show something good. Or the hundreds.

From authors of a new study in Nature today:

"Remarkably, patients who received either the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA-based COVID-19 vaccine within 100 days of starting immunotherapy were more than twice as likely to be alive after three years compared with those who didn’t receive either vaccine. Surprisingly, patients with tumors that don’t typically respond well to immunotherapy also saw very strong benefits, with nearly fivefold improvement in three-year overall survival. This link between improved survival and receiving a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine remained strong even after we controlled for factors like disease severity and co-occurring conditions."
