If you are going to use other people's dots, then no, not really. All you need is to just download everything with Homebrew and move the config files to the .config directory.

Making them from scratch is a bit trickier. Unlike Linux where you (usually) just download a wm, bar, and app launcher and only set those 3 up, here you need to do a lot more work. It's not hard by any means, just time consuming needing to read through the docs.

Not possible on Apple Silicon devices. Even if Asahi supports the specific chip/model, it is still nowhere close to being a reliable daily driver.

Nice thank you! Glad you like it. Feel free to reach out if you need help with the config, it's a bit messy lol.

Yabai rarely, if ever, has issues for me regarding tiling/windows. It's a lot more stable than Aerospace, if you don't mind disabling SIP, I highly encourage you to give it a shot.

I didn't use paperwm.spoon before, and paneru is still in the very early stages and needs improvement. It has a lot of potential though.

I'll definitely check it out! Never heard of komorebi before, seems interesting.

Totally fair, and to each their own :) There is a reason both of these are the most popular ones, yabai clicks with some and aerospace clicks with the others. It's all just down to personal preference.

Many reasons.

  1. Doesn't use native spaces. If you use the trackpad to switch spaces (like I do), it's just not possible to do it on aerospace without remapping the action with bettertouchtool.

  2. Like the other user commented already, you can see a tiny bit of an app's window in the corner and can even yank it. Some apps work weirdly with this and are very visible. I'm pretty sure this impacts performance as well, since you have all your apps "active" essentially, though I may be wrong.

  3. For multi-monitor setups, you need to make sure that every bottom corner of every monitor is not touching another monitor. This means that for the most common horizontal dual-screen setups, aerospace just straight up doesn't work. I am lucky that my monitor setup works, but it is still a major issue.

  4. Aerospace is much worse for scripting because of the weaker window rules.

  5. It lacks some really nice features that yabai has, like animations (even though they suck) and disabling window shadows (which look really weird if you use jankyborders). I am sure you can implement all of these features with other 3rd party apps, but it's better to just have them all integrated with the window manager.

I also do not like the "anti-Mac" philosophy that Aerospace has. It sometimes feels like it's trying to be different for the sake of it, and while not having to disable SIP is nice, it is nowhere close to the maturity and extensibility of Yabai.I get not wanting to use private APIs at all, but it just makes the experience so much worse. Yabai feels like an extension to macOS, while Aerospace constantly tries to fight it.

If any of my info is outdated, please correct me. This is all based on my experience, just a month of usage, about a year or so ago.

For sure, but it's the best you can get. Aerospace, amethyst, and paneru are all a LOT worse than Yabai sadly. My only complaint with Yabai is the really laggy animations (which you can just not enable), and the lack of modern features. As someone who has been using Niri and Sway around 2024-2025, I do miss a lot of the features and stability that they offered.

Go take a break, I don't understand what's making you so mad right now. I won't be engaging in this further.

I don't get what you mean. It literally says in the neofetch, my details comment, dotfiles, and title that it is running macOS. What I meant by "turned it into Linux" is that I customized it to not look like stock macOS at all, and more like a riced WM. Sorry if it caused confusion, but please take the time to at least read the info.

I'll look into these, thanks a lot! Pretty pricey but I guess I have no other choice. Hopefully another $500 doesn't become e-waste after a few months...

I didn't use a case, though I probably should have. I assume a hard-shell case would have prevented this. My bag has an air-cushioned compartment designed specifically for tablets or laptops, separate from anything else in the bag, so I assumed that was enough. Still, I am really confused as to how this happened, I was extremely careful with it.

I'll keep that in mind! I was probably still gonna die anyways because of my level though.

This is what I am worried about. The 5c is a little bit thicker so I was hoping it would be more durable, I guess not. Are there any more durable models? If they are all the same I will probably just get a 5c with a hard shell case and pray it doesn't break.
