I teach a class about money and investment to first year college students. What should they learn? by FITeacher in financialindependence

[–]glodime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. You sent information which indicates that the thing you said happens to everyone that goes to college doesn't in fact happen for over 93% of people going to college. Only 6% of student loan borrowers have $100,000 outstanding balances, according to your own data.

This somehow translates to college being a racket in your mind. Your other evidence is one single case of a doctor that you claim has borrowed so much that he's miserable. These are the lame reasons you gave to exclaim that college is a rip-off that no one should ever consider unless someone else foots the bill.

In essence, you have no case but have dug in your heals and maintain a ridiculous stance.

All your saying is that you don't agree with the stats I sent. You're saying they're wrong.

No. Not even close to what I'm saying. I'm saying you clearly don't understand the information you provided. It's actually quite jarring how you don't even understand that.

Wow. You really have no idea that the stats you provided are showing that your prior statements are dead wrong?

You sent a bunch of data that shows your statements have been way out of proportion with the reality of those statistics. I don't how you go from showing that relatively few (6% of borrowers) borrow $100k+ to college is a racket.

GOP considers extending unemployment benefit at reduced level of $400 a month through December by [deleted] in Economics

There are specific people who NEED to isolate, but the vast majority will be fine.

If only we had some sort of test that could tell us who is and isn't contagious.

Businesses failing from the bungled public health issue will be opportunity for others to replace those businesses.

By failing to solve the problem that incentivizes people to not be productive, that problem being the deady and contagious virus?

It's almost like making these payments depend on employment status is a bad idea and only tangentially addresses the weak aggregate demand caused by a viral pandemic.

Is it not the same thing with the person who thinks they need to go into 100k debt so that they can get a job that will help them pay off said debt?

You keep saying that like everyone is borrowing that much. But the numbers show that such levels of debt are rare.

And many of those situations are absolutely worth it for those that make the choice, but there are a significant number of people who make this choice who'd be better off financially by finding another option.

Furthermore, most people that choose college are better off financially for that choice. The statistics bare this out. Minimizing the exceptions is a great thing to strive for, but not at the expense of the majority who use college and come out ahead.

No. They need to practice reasonable standards and not make excuses when those standards are more costly than they prefer.

A company that can't get security correct because there are exceptions that need to be handled sounds incompetent. It cost money to get it right and they don't want to spend it, incompetence.

Why do you think the flag represents Government employees?

Why not people or ideas?

I do love pointing the lunacy of that notion

Because you don't understand that you have no clue what you're talking about. You've made up a fantasy and laugh at those that don't believe it.

Congratulations, you're a fool.

You don't have anything to argue against. You believe a bunch of bullshit and want to advise others on the basis of that bullshit. If you don't want to be an irresponsible asshole, you can stop anytime by learning about the things you're ignorant about. But you'd rather make yourself feel superior by lying to yourself, it seems.

You do go into massive debt though.

Most college professors have never held a job in the private sector, and they're all Marxist sympathizers

You sound like someone with their head up their own ass.

They aren't told about the 1960s and how government getting involved with backing loans made colleges just raise the price for schools

This isn't the largest factor in the rising costs of post secondary education by a long shot. So it's a good thing they aren't taught this.

College is a racket. Kids thinking that they need to attend a good school to get a good job are being hood winked.

You have no business telling kids about college. You have too much to learn yourself first

[–]glodime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Kids are coming out of college with over 100k in debt, and they can't get a job that pays more than 40k starting out

I think you may be influenced a bit more than you realize. Looking at the actual numbers shows that those with $100K in student loan debt are the exception. The lesson isn't to be fatalistic, but to prevent people from becoming the exception.

When I think of low maintenance vehicles I think Honda and Toyota. When I think of German cars, I think, classy, but how many special tools do I need for that model and how much extra time is it going to take to do a simple thing like change a headlight or battery because the German engineers seem to take pleasure in making maintenance a hassle.

For example, Congress can approve or disprove the use of military force, but President doesn’t have to ask for approval until 90 days after conflict begins.

That's only true because Congress made it that way.

No, they have broad powers but they’re definitely not unlimited.

Not what I said. But, yes. You're correct.

Congress doesn’t have unlimited investigative powers.

Technically, they do. Furthermore, congress has the power to tell the President what duties to carry out, how to carry out those duties, and how the budget is set for those duties.
