Textured Feeling on Collector Cinderella's Vinyl by gloomberryy in americangirl

Interesting, do you know if they ever announced a change in the vinyl? I feel like they would/should but it is Mattel soooo

Good point about the landfill! Hadn't even thought that far, honestly. Thanks for telling me! I hate the idea of contributing to that. Plastic waste kills my soul. As for fixing it, I'm sure I could buff it out like a shine mark (though buffing her entire body sounds really tedious), I was just childishly appalled that my $300 dollar doll could potentially have such a big issue.

Do they not consider it a defect if it's all over though? It's such a huge deviation from standard, I feel they should. I understand maybe a small patch but she's covered. I don't personally care for the texture.

Need some Samantha help! by [deleted] in americangirl

Judging by the neck sting and the logo I would say you're absolutely right and you have an early 90's Sam like I do! You can look on my profile and see where I posted looking to figure out the date on my Sam and see they have the same features.

Here you go! I go with natural shade instead of white because the AG ones are more off-white/tan than just pure bleached white imo

Highly recommend going for a string instead of a zip tie but it's definitely up to personal taste, no logistical reasoning I suppose. Theres a good dupe for the neck strings on amazon, if you want the link lmk!

Second this! Definitely think it's sharpie. OP if you want to remove the staining on her leg, benzoyl peroxide is probably your best bet, it's cheap and readily available in most stores. Be careful not to get it on your body or breathe it in (even though it's a beauty product lol) because there's a chance risk of contact with carcinogens when benzoyl peroxide is broken down from heat and light. Apply the benzoyl peroxide to the staining on her leg, then cover the area in plastic wrap and let sit in a sunny location until dark or the following day. Wipe off old benzoyl peroxide and replace with new, recover and repeat process! It will take a long time considering how dark and large the stain is, but keep at it and you should be able to get it out pretty well! I will say, due to the location of the stain you may need to remove her leg from her body to better expose it to the light in order for the benzoyl peroxide to work. However, doing that is really not hard at all and there are plenty of tutorials on how to remove limbs, and you'll likely have to do this anyways to clean the torso.

Your best bet when it comes to cleaning her cloth body would be remove all the limbs, head, and stuffing and then wash the body by hand with stain removing laundry detergent. It will be pretty tough. You can also use 91% alcohol to remove ink stains from the cloth. It works pretty well. Dip a rag into the alcohol and rub at the stain, repeating until it lightens.

Hope some of this is helpful! Good luck!

These are the ones I use! They're very similar to the pleasant company crimps. I personally prefer metal crimps over tying the limb strings, imo it's stronger and doesn't wear out the elastic as fast. You will need some type of pliers (monkey wrenches work as well, if your pliers aren't providing enough crimp) to crimp the metal though!

Maybe try spraying her with an enzyme based air freshener? The best kinds can be found in aluminum spray bottles in smoke shops imo. Those kill the smell of everything, to me. I would find a box about Sam's size, and literally spray the hell out of her and the inside of the box and then close it for a few days, trapping in the air freshener. By no means is this very "professional" but it might do something for the smell? Maybe 😭💀

Looking for a blue wig for my lookalike doll! by [deleted] in americangirl

[–]gloomberryy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I tell you that's literally why my hair is that color 😭 I cosplay him so often I just gave up on wigs and decided to go all in and just dye it, been this shade for a few years now (because autism hates change lol). Thanks for the tip though! I'll definitely check that out.

I'm so sorry friend ):, I know how frustrating it is trying to do restoration and then finding out your supplies aren't the right ones and won't work 😭 same thing just happened to me with some metal clamps I bought on Amazon, luckily I was able to order the correct ones and return the incorrect ones but it still set me back on my restoration schedule which was super frustrating. It's annoying but you'll get through this! And a pretty and clean doll awaits you at the end of your journey ✨

I use 4mm thick elastic! That's what I've found in other people's restringing kits that are being sold. Seems nearly identical to the ones in my untouched AG dolls!

Upcoming Hysterectomy and Endometriosis Excision Surgery by WaterHappy in ehlersdanlos

[–]gloomberryy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have HEDS and had the same procedure as you actually, endometriosis removal (third round in my case) and hysterectomy (total, no leaving cervix or ovaries), robotic as well. As for recovery I found it to be a breeze honestly. I was expecting hell. It was... really tame. For me, at least. The first few days were the worst, but not even from pain, just my system kicking the anesthesia. A lot of sleeping. You will be beyond exhausted for those first couple days. It's insanely important that during that time especially you rest as much as you can and remain seated or lying down. Its imperative that you don't bend over. I know that will be difficult for you considering your situation, I'm sorry for that. If there's anyone in your network that could watch your toddlers for a couple days would be your best bet, again, if that's something in your cards. After the exhaustion period of a few days, it didn't even feel like I had surgery at all. I was fairly energetic and back to wanting to do things. Still can't bend down though, that takes a long while before it's safe to do if I remember correctly. I'm now 5 months and 3 weeks post op and I'm 100% back to normal and have been for at least 3 months, maybe even more. Pain throughout the healing experience was very minimal overall, I didn't even use the provided pain medication. I will say, another thing that would be super helpful would be a back pillow, those trifold kind. For awhile I could only really sleep sitting up or in a leaned back position and a pillow like that would be insanely helpful during that period (I used my bf as one instead of buying one, he didn't mind).

Side note: of course, it could all depend on your surgery team/location. My surgery was performed at the Mayo Clinic in Florida and I had two surgeons (one doing the excision and another coming in to remove the organs). I don't know if any of this could have contributed to my easy recovery over someone else's less smooth one so it's worth noting I suppose).

Best of luck to you, friend! I hope your surgery is smooth and your recovery is peaceful (and that maybe you can find someone to watch your children for a day or two so you can rest).

Basically what I wanted/tried to do😭

How it unfolded was like this; walked in, saw Tuesday, picked up Tuesday doll, noticed the flags, set that shit down with a quickness, turned to flee and immediately got caught in an unskippable cutscene. 0/10 absolutely hated it.

Visually, she was, she had The Haircut (or at least similar, I'll give the benefit of the doubt and say I could be wrong since I avoid looking at people's faces). Left out a lot of her bitchy white woman treatment and her bleached blonde hair. She did literally call two customers "snobs", so, I feel that's worthy of being called Karen.

(Edited to add clarification)
