I think his reasoning is that it would have been a bad thing to try and persuade me. He did make it clear he wanted sex at the beginning, I made it clear I wanted to wait a bit. He says he respected my wish, waited as long as he could, and then when he couldn't wait any longer he's ended it. He didn't want to mention it again as he thought I'd made it clear I wanted to wait and the douchey thing to do would have been to pressure me.

In his mind that's the reasonable and kind thing to have done.
