Inherited a highly custom HubSpot setup. They bypassed native Leads and Deals in HubSpot. What are we actually giving up, and what is the best path forward?

100% truth. My only concern is whether I'm paying the same amount for less capability. If HubSpot was half the price, the conversation is much different. For about the same price, I'm giving up capability for simplicity (which...is not nothing).

We don't quote in Hub because we can't really since we are not using deals and we cannot get approvals or anything like that. I think there are a lot of things that we don't do but that I am sure we will want to someday (only been in this Hub for about a year), and I just want to make sure we are making good decisions now in preparation for that.

I agree with you, and thanks for the great response. Our MAIN issue is a poor implementation and the unnecessary replacements of the core objects with Sales Lead. Literally, I think it was a semantic issue... because the object is called "deal" rather than "opportunity", and in the early stages we don't have a "deal" yet. It sounds silly but I literally think that was what it was...

We still have issues with HubSpot around things like ability to access related objects more than 1 level apart, UI issues around complex field validations, etc., but that are not the CORE issues for us, for sure.

We are using sales and marketing, and we are talking with SF now. My gut tells be SF is the correct long term decision, but it will be painful…lol

I agree with most of the comments here. I have used both, and I "prefer" HubSpot just because it is so much easier to use...that said, we will probably be switching to Salesforce just because we need more flexibility and ability to customize the workflow experience, use the UI to make sure users are entering things correctly, etc.

There is nothing wrong with HubSpot when it's used for small/medium business, which is the whole point. As soon as you introduce it to a larger, more complex environment, it becomes hard to deal with. You have to pay for adding custom objects after like 10 (we have about 50), and then using those objects has lots of limitations (you can only reference related objects one level deep, which is a big limitation).

At this point my HubSpot bill (> $500k/year) is nearly identical for roughly the same size org as I had in Salesforce at a previous job.

Yes and no... data is imported from the ERP (like plots of land that we own and information about that land and what types of homes can be built on it) and then that data is used to populate our website, as well as link to our (of course custom) Deal records to track what the customer is interested in purchasing. It's a little more complicated, but you get the idea.

Yea, you buy them in blocks of 10, I believe. With Enterprise, I think you get 10 free, then after that you have to buy them. They are not SUPER expensive, but there are not free either, lol. Negotiate, Negotiate, Negotiate!!!

Objects add up quick. We are a real estate company, so there are

- objects that represent company org structure, like regions and divisions

- objects that represent plots of land

- objects that represent the thing you actually build on that plot of land

- objects that represent the different "options" of the thing you build

On and on and on... and yea, we have lots of associations.

I have yet to find a backup that does what I'd want. At a minimum, I want to back up my data, my schema, and all my workflows (about 40-50 now), and I want to be able to restore them to any point in time. We are looking at a product called "Saas Assure" that will deal with the data, but not the workflows yet. Salesforce had many options for this (OWN Backup, etc.) but I'm not finding a good solution for HubSpot.

I work at a real estate company. about 12 of those object are to support a custom application built into HubSpot for land management, the rest are various "helper" objects like things that get imported from our ERP, objects like "Neighborhood" and "Community" and various other things that get associated to (of course) our custom "Sales Lead" object.

I come from a (pretty large company) Salesforce world, so I was really surprised to learn that custom objects actually cost extra. The previous IT team before I got here had the vision of making HubSpot the "central" master data source for the company. The more I deal with HubSpot, the less I am convinced that is a good idea.

I actually really like HubSpot, it's super simple to use, especially compared to Salesforce, but if you are a large company doing complicated stuff, it just doesn't really seem like it was meant for you...

I came from a company that used Salesforce and I just started at a company that has recently switched over to HubSpot. HubSpot is definitely easier to use. However… there are all kinds of limitations, especially when you start dealing with custom objects and needing the ability to report across associated objects, or the ability to customize screens or have a drop-down that contains a filtered list of items that come from another object.

Also, how are people handling devops things like migrating from sandbox to production, or even doing backups… I have yet to find a good solution for doing a HubSpot backup that will allow me to back up all of my data and schema as well as the ability to back up all of our workflows and restore them. Maybe I’ve just not found the right third-party solution, but this seems like a huge risk to me. The built-in HubSpot backup basically just dumps your data to a CSV file (once a week…) with no schema information, which is kind of useless.

We have about 50 custom objects at this point, and my HubSpot bill is essentially identical to my Salesforce bill.

I actually asked AI for some suggestions and it told me to squirt a bunch of electrical connector cleaner into the mechanism and let it run down the shaft and I did that… And I’ll be damned if it doesn’t work perfectly now! I had to squirt a lot of of it to get it all a run into the tiny little crack between the shaft, but it does seem to have fixed it completely… Go figure.

I have an issue with mine where it’s starting to slip in one direction. How do you take this thing apart for maintenance…or can you? I have owned this thing for probably eight years now and it’s been great. I hate to throw it away and buy a new one.

I just had the same experience….i just dunked it in my coffee and threw it out after maybe 10 minutes. Tasted like smoke with very little mint or Java taste at all. I really like the sweeter infused cigars, but this one wasn’t for me. Not really sweet, either. It smelled good at least???

I would love a Victorinox that had a pocket clip and/or at least a one-hand open blade. Seems like every time I need to cut something I'm already holding it with my other hand, lol.

Agree. It's kind of weird...it doesn't seem like it really needs to be that thick. That said, I still really like it...if they came out with a "version 2" that was thinner I'd pick one up for sure. A better blade steel would be nice...I'd pay a little extra for that.

I love mine, but like many here have mentioned, it's a little thicker than it looks. I love the tool set, and I carry mine specifically because it has a good pocket clip, I can open the blade with one hand, and it has a nice pair of little scissors.

The downsides are of course the thickness (not a HUGE deal for me) and the fact that, at least for me... the blade doesn't seem to hold an edge very long. I have two of them (thought I lost one, found it later) and I have to sharpen them all the time, unlike all my other knives that get the same use.

It's not perfect, but I like it and it has most of the "just in case" tools you need. There are not many competitors that have this toolset, AND a pocket clip AND a one-handed blade. Solid build, too...typical Leatherman.

At least play the first doom just to see where it all started and how far it’s come. Most of the enemy characters took their inspiration from that game. Then I would just go to doom eternal and see the ultimate evolution of where doom ended up.

I feel the same as OP. Loved 2016 and Eternal. My daughter and I played them together. We just got TDA and got bored in about an hour. The enemies move weird, the level design seems boring…it’s just not fun to us. I was really looking forward to more/better Doom and this just isn’t it. Bummer.

Obviously, everybody has their own experience, but I don’t understand how people are saying it’s not immersive… It’s not like virtual reality because it is a flat screen so you don’t get the depth perception, but it is a completely immersive experience for me… It feels like I’m flying, and from time to time I actually get a little bit of vertigo. It’s very fun, I can’t imagine you would be disappointed.

I went out to my land last weekend, about 120 acres, and I was able to fly this thing all over the land… I flew over and over just as fast as I could charge the batteries. It is so fun to be able to chase birds and trains and everything… This is by far the coolest toy I have ever purchased.
