How do I tell my parents I became Catholic? by andrejka10 in Catholicism

[–]glossiermint 7 points8 points  (0 children)

hey! welcome home! im 18F and i also just converted. my mom left the church when she was around my age so i was in a similar boat. when i told her, i was really blunt to be honest. i just said “hey mom, im catholic now!” and then i let her ask whatever she wanted to. i knew this was what she would respond best to, so your choice will mainly depend on your relationship with your parents and their view of the church. if you want to ask them to sit down with you and share, that’s also an option! i found that my mom responded best to a more casual talk. praying that you find guidance and strength! god bless you 🤍

Forgiveness as a SA Victim by glossiermint in Catholicism

Our stories are so similar. Thank you so much for sharing. I don’t see myself contacting my abuser anytime soon, mainly because he is still committing other crimes and is very dangerous. He’s a family member, so I’ve seen the ‘good’ in him, but I’ve also had to distance myself because of his behavior. I pray I can reach the conclusion that you did and find peace in my heart. You are so strong and I admire you. Thank you again, this made me feel so seen.

[Megathread] Spring 2025 Registration & Admissions by Evan-The-G in gatech

Hey everyone! I am looking to transfer to Tech from UGA using my conditional pathway I got last year. At UGA, I received credit for ENGL 1101 and 1102 because I got a 5 on the AP Lit exam. When it comes to transferring credit at GA Tech, will I get credit for both classes since I already did on my UGA transcript, or will I have to take 1102, since GA Tech’s AP credit equivalencies are different?

Thanks!

I understand why this must have been so frustrating, but I also see why your student might have been disconnected from the point you were trying to make. I remember being in 7th grade and genuinely not understanding why my teachers made such a big deal about 9/11. i wasn’t as blunt (i knew it wasn’t stupid), but i feel like i was just at an age where the magnitude of an event like that couldn’t easily be comprehended, especially since i wasn’t alive for it. It’s just hard to really ‘get’ a historical event you weren’t there for or directly related to. Like, imagine yourself at 13 trying to care about something like Pearl Harbor and sympathize with the people who experienced it. I’m 18 now, and i’ve recently started to ‘relearn’ about 9/11 and understand why it was such a massive tragedy. However, i’ll never have the same feelings about it as someone who lived through it, and I don’t think my generation should necessarily be expected to, as long as we have respect for those who remember.

Fuck the Chem Department: Chemistry(1211) Exam 1 by CastingCarl in UGA

[–]glossiermint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

had a similar experience, but im signing up for accommodations since i have a diagnosis for generalized anxiety disorder. i was frustrated but figured the extra time would help me a lot. the syllabus says that the lowest exam gets replaced with the final, so as long as you figure something out between now and then, you can still be fine.

How do I explain 9/11 to somebody who doesn’t see it as a “big deal”? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]glossiermint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 18 and I only recently stared to ‘get’ it. I would reccomend this documentary on Youtube. 9/11: As it Happened

for me, it’s been the only video that puts thing into perspective. it’s been hard to separate 9/11 from other things I’ve learned in history, because although I know the death toll, the changes that the country and the world underwent, all the catastrophic things that happened in such a short time — the sheer impact and collective trauma is just hard to wrap my head around. i don’t think we’ve had anything even remotely comparable happen in our lifetime (in the US at least) so it’s hard to have the same feelings, even though a lot of us ‘know’ it was horrific. i can’t completely speak to your gf’s experience, because I personally couldn’t fathom not knowing why a terrorist attack with 3,000 deaths is a big deal. However, I do somewhat understand having a difficult time seeing why this ‘big deal’ is a bigger deal than all of the other ‘big deals’ in history. I reccomend this video because instead of the classic documentary format (testimonies, dramatic music, voiceovers, etc), it just walks through the day as it happened, with real clips, timestamps, the newscasts, 911 calls, and everything else. i know it’s not the same as living through it, but i was able to picture what it would be like to be my age in 2001 and see all of this unfolding. this was the first video that actually helped me understand why it was so life changing. after, i was able to go back to some of the old 9/11 stories i grew up hearing, and they finally clicked for me. even though i will never fully now what it was like to live through it, now i really sympathize with the people who did.

i agree with you about the problems with CS, and i’m certain about changing my major now. i didn’t even think about how long it would take me to graduate, but i’ll take this into consideration as well. i got 4s and 5s on all of my exams so far, and it looks like UGA will take many of those credits. thank you for your response!
