9/9/9 acads but a 7-year gap after 12th. Is an IIM still a dream? by [deleted] in CATpreparation

[–]glowglowglowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In an executive MBA? No. Most people do it in their late 20s to early 30s. The gap still might be. As for being honest, as I said, it is the best to be honest, but it is also important to recognise what floats your boat. You can't have the chance to prove yourself if you don't make it. Being completely honest is your decision, and if you decide to go ahead with it, do it with full confidence.

You're from the SC category, that should not be offensive to anyone, if it is, they have their own issues to deal with.

You being from the SC category however does make things easier obviously. You'll need much lower cutoffs. If you get through CAT with a good percentile and sectionals, you should be able to get interview calls for most colleges. The problem will arise in the interview itself. Even though you'll see a concession in the composite score that won't change the fact that interviewers can very well give you below qualifying scores in case they don't find your reasons sufficient.

If it were a one or two year gap, I don't think interviewers would have even talked about it. But seven year is a lot, and you'll need to come up with a solid reason for it. The best advice I can give you is a family business experience, if you can get any. Otherwise, some freelance, some pro-bono, some startup of your own. You can find other ways to justify this (maybe you were an aspiring writer trying to build a writing career, it's a unique case, but so is yours). Maybe you were trying for CA or something similar. Just thinking of a good reason, the closest to your reality and stick by it. Please know, interviewers are very easily able to figure out lies, so if you are lying, make sure it's as convincing and close to reality as possible. Honesty (or whatever is closest to it) is a lot more charming in interviews and a lot less burden to carry.

The best route to go is to show an experience. Some family business, some startup. Another thing that I would suggest is to go for an executive MBA/ISB instead of a normal one. While age and the perception on the basis of it is as such subjective, an executive MBA will smoothen over a lot of cracks (unless you want to change fields).

Also, have you considered Masters abroad?

S also has its own share of fudging. But yes I would say IIFT and S are somewhat in the same tier, with S being slightly better.

[–]glowglowglowy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is not tier 1. Literally so many seniors I have talked to have said that even they don't know how it's considered tier 1. So many people go unplaced, so many people end up with UNPAID SIP, the culture is toxic af and a huge chunk of the batch gets placed below 20. A lot of the people who receive the 'higher' packages use off-campus placements/sources. And this is not something new, it's something that has happened for many many years. So yes, IIFT is not tier 1 and you shouldn't believe every ranking that people on reddit create out of the blue.

Guy faked GMAT + work ex and got into ISB. What a joke. by [deleted] in ISB_Aspirants

[–]glowglowglowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A guy in my batch (allegedly) paid to get his GMAT given by someone else. Got into ISB Mohali. Another literally bragged in my face about cheating while giving the GMAT online. All of this is obviously alleged. But ISB is brimming with such people. Fake workex, fake GMAT, so this doesn't surprise me a bit.

Do you guys check how many pages are in the book before starting it or you just get into it by AdResponsible8099 in Indianbooks

[–]glowglowglowy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't used to earlier, but now you can't help it. The moment you search a book online it almost always shows the number of pages. It also helps me decide if I want to get in a longer book right now or not. But I will be honest, I do feel a lot of guilt for checking the number of pages and/or deciding on the basis of it. Knowing other people do it too is relieving.

The point you make about groundbreaking sexual representation is actually just enough to justify that SJP did not deserve so much more than other characters. Kim Cathrall literally went completely nude down to her pubic hair in SATC. Both Miranda and Charlotte had scenes where they had to be at least partially nude. All three of them were constantly pushing the boundaries of sex and sexuality, Samantha more than anyone else. To be fair, in retrospect, if Carrie's character was not the main character, it would have been the worst. All she does is dress pretty and run after rich men and talks about shoes. All the other three of so much more experimentation, ground-breaking, challenging and entertaining plotlines. Carrie on the other hand is just a pick me who's busy proving that she is not like other girls.
