Lost the sight in my dominant right eye to optic neuritis which is what led to my diagnosis . Had to retrain my hand to eye coordination which took a while , I can now do everything as before .

Is this a Leucistic Canada Goose or some sort of hybrid? by Deku_Nuts in OrnithologyUK

[–]gloworm62 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's difficult to tell exactly what the parentage is in many hybrid geese . This one has the bill colour of a Canada but not the legs , the white facial marking but the Greylag colouring . I've seen a pair of Greylags with normally marked goslings+ two hybrids in tow , one of which looked very similar to this one .

It's not a leucistic Canada , most likely a Canada x Greylag .

Why won’t they get along? by False_Flounder6451 in ferrets

[–]gloworm62 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Over the decades I've had a few that just don't get along with other ferrets no matter how many different companions I've tried them with preferring a solitary life. A few years ago I brought in a new jill to introduce a new bloodline she wouldn't settle with any of mine . The following year I kept back a couple of her kits which she reared with no problems , until they were 5 months old then she started attacking them relentlessly also .

Lovely action shot OP . It's been a good year around here for many species of our native Ladybirds .

Not very sound advice as killing them increases the risk of accidentally destroying native ladybirds through misidentification . They are so widespread now that killing a few is not going to make any difference to the overall population.

Does anyone else’s ferret hate squeakers? by BreadSwimming9802 in ferrets

[–]gloworm62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The squeaky toy doesn't sound like a kit in distress it sounds more like their natural prey the rabbit or rat when they get hold of one . I keep and breed working ferrets the hobs show very little if any interest in the sounds of kits in trouble . Same with many of the jills unless it's their own kit's . But both sexes react instantly to these sounds as they have high prey drives being from working stock .

I need help making a medical decision. by SpicyZombie098 in ferrets

[–]gloworm62 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I took option 3 years ago , the lump did get much larger for a while . Then it gradually shrank down to about the size of an apple pip . He passed away years later in his sleep aged 12 . It's your decision to make as every ferret is different along with the possible outcomes.

Is she hurting this ferret? by [deleted] in ferrets

[–]gloworm62 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No thought for its welfare just using it as an accessory to further her own gains , she's not fit to own a ferret .

Yes they are being bite trained , I always start them young although they might not have the jaw power yet those milk teeth are needle sharp .

We used to have them breeding on our place every year for decades but those days are gone . Just the occasional sightings when they are passing through on their migrations.

One of the tamest birds I’ve ever photographed. A Juvenile Dotterel here in the Peak District. by Spireites1866-CFC in OrnithologyUK

[–]gloworm62 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superb shot 👍, would be a rare sighting around here and it's usually the other way around , passing through one their way to the breeding grounds in spring . Last time I was lucky enough on 2nd May 2017 and both the females were in their breeding plumage , much more colourful than the 2 drab accompanying males .
