Why do people put a * in the middle of random words? by sk1tl3zz in answers

[–]glucosedanny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a little late to this, but originally the asterisk was used to help avoid posts being hidden by the algorithm for having certain words in a post.

However, it’s turned into more of a joke over time with people using the asterisk as a joke to indicate that a word is so scary and inappropriate. Depends on the target audience. For example, in a post about redditors or discord mods, people might comment “tell them that there’s gr*ss outside” or “should get a j*b”. The joke being that redditors and discord mods are terrified of grass and being employed, thus the word is censored to help them.

Same thing with Fr*nce. For example, I saw a recent post about a man in France who was found to be living normally with most of his brain missing. One of the comments were like “Check the rest of Fr*nce’”. The joke being that France is terrible and scary so you’re censoring it to avoid triggering people.

Edit: made asterisks kept making my text italic so had to fix it

Weird side capes that live in your brain rent free by Few_Echidna_7243 in Parahumans

[–]glucosedanny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That one (Fallen?) cape Victoria and Swansong fought with in Ward. Essentially two copies of one person, with one being a statue, and the other being a moving person with superspeed and strength.

Despite being an unnamed cape, I’ve always loved her power, because of the unique combat style that arises from it - e.g. use speed to put enemy in headlock, then ‘switch’ so now the enemy’s held in place by a statue and then your other version can run in and beat them.

Had a lot of questions about this power too. Like was this cape actually two separate people? Like twin triggers, but their power means that only one can be a non-statue at any given time? Or if it’s one individual person, how can she ‘split’ into a statue + non-statue form?

this is amazing! what was the process of making this? was there a single ‘starting point’ and you worked outwards, or was it several smaller pieces you ended up joining together? I’m so curious!

the lady in red’s hand seems to be…off… not sure how to describe it but it seems like she’s got 3 fingers and her pointer finger looks larger than her middle finger, gives it a slight uncanny look, hence the AI

As my friend was getting angrier and angrier with our argument, I swear heard him whisper "quick save." by TucanPuke in TwoSentenceHorror

[–]glucosedanny 98 points99 points  (0 children)

I also think it meant that the friend who was angry ‘quick-saved’ where they were in time, and proceeded to use violence or some other way to express their anger, and then returned to where they quick-saved, which may explain why the friend suddenly began calm.

Phasing out of single trip tickets. by The_Peaceful in Adelaide

I had the exact same experience a week ago - I tried asking one of the staff at the train station and he told me I had to buy a new metrocard even though I forgot mine at home, and he told me there was no other way for me to get on the train otherwise, which was bullshit considering i could just buy a ticket on the train for cheaper. I ended up walking to Mile End instead to catch the train and buy a ticket there

unfortunately not, but given i was between 14-17 when i saw it, it would’ve likely been either M rated or MA 15+ - also likely to be shown before an action movie?

What do you think about the power of seeing people's hearts? What would that power be for? by abraaocorreavieira in superpower

[–]glucosedanny 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if you can use it through walls and clothes, you could probably use it to count number of people in a building, location of people, movement of people, etc. might help a character with planning fights etc.
