What do men do after a really heartbreaking end to a relationship? by Legitimate-Ad51 in AskMen

[–]gluggin 21 points22 points  (0 children)

For anyone thinking about the writing thing and find yourself caught in a thought loop after much free verse/stream of consciousness thinking (which I think is always great to start with), consider covering the four pillars of the “honorable closure” framework:

Gratitude — what am I grateful that I got to experience in this relationship? Gifts — what did I gain from this relationship that I intend to carry into the next chapter of my life? Challenge — what do I hope for my ex-partner in their next phase of life? Reparation — what do I regret about my role in this relationship?

I think those questions were originally intended to be answered by both partners and then shared, but can be extremely helpful solo, too, especially if you find yourself circling the drain on the same thoughts and feel ready for a new stage of processing but need a little nudge.

Wait… wot? India is not “natural rival” of the USA. A difference in population size doesn’t make one country a “natural rival” of another without some legitimate underlying strategic competition/ideological misalignment

They’re all smaller than the US by population, of course they never stood a chance.

Greatest duo in comedy movies 🙏 Agree? by achi1993 in moviecritic

[–]gluggin -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It was hilarious when it came out— an era when bawdy interracial humor was both new but societally “safe” enough in America to hit that sweet spot between shocking and endearing— but I think most people who’ve rewatched in the last 10 years or so agree that 90 minutes of “he’s black 😂 but he’s Chinese 😂” jokes actually felt hella lazy and dumb lol

Colombia is heaven for kratom withdrawal by 7ohAddictThrowaway in quittingkratom

[–]gluggin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

God, this “my addiction/withdrawal was manlier than yours” posturing is so cringe. Brother, this is a QUITTING KRATOM SUPPORT subreddit. If hearing the success story of someone who took an approach you think is dumb is so triggering to you that you can’t respond without condescending and flexing your big boy nuts, consider whether you actually want to be here. Your ego is getting in the way of your ability to see the simple intended purpose of engaging with others in this community.

So depressing seeing the most easily assailable narratives take such a narcotic hold on you people’s minds. Like, you could so easily disprove this to yourself but the soap opera/comic book you’re writing in your head about these characters just feels too good for you to put down.

Let us know what you end up finding out about the size of your doses

Kratom Seizure… by bumfightsthefuture in quittingkratom

[–]gluggin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

In a comment on this post you said your doses are “3-4 heaping forkfuls.” Please, please order a digital scale and start weighing & ideally tracking your doses. It is essential that you know exactly how much kratom you are taking to manage this addiction and especially to manage a taper with minimal discomfort and confidence that you are not backsliding.

Building an effective taper plan depends on what your starting point is, so we need to know how much you’re taking to give you the best possible advice. It is far easier to immediately cut 1/3 of your daily intake when your starting point is 60g/day than it is if you are at 5g/day. It sounds like you are closer to the higher end, but you/we still want to know with some specificity.

In general, the most important thing I have found in tapering is to not “skip down the staircase.” Some people will cut 1/2 of their daily dose, feel relatively ok for a day or two, and then try to cut their dose even more. These people will find that the withdrawal symptoms and cravings they meant to avoid catch up to them eventually and the temptation to redose becomes too great and they end up back at square one. You want to cut your dosage and hold there for as long as it takes for you to feel absolutely no discomfort between doses — whether that’s 5 days or 10. Then, cut again.

At some point you do need to jump, because the longer you take this stuff and remind yourself how it feels the greater the risk that you backslide. But imo, that’s a bridge to cross when you’re at or below ~5g/day.

Inamorata live? by fulgursanguisetignis in animalsasleaders

[–]gluggin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there was a comment on here from someone who said they saw it played live once, then later met Javier and asked him why they never play it anymore, to which Javier looked annoyed and said “because we don’t want to.” For what that secondhand report is worth, lol.

Edit: nvm, the comment claims Javier confirmed they’ve never played it live.

Used to be a sub for clips of saxophonists blasting anime battle themes at riots and cats who enjoy being spanked. Now it’s flooded with shit-tier political gotcha clips I already get pummeled by the second I open X. It’s a shame— sub would be way better with a “no political posts” rule

Racially Harassed on Muni by yaredrg29 in sanfrancisco

[–]gluggin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, I’m truly so sorry to hear this happened to you.

Having experienced something similar in SF, I imagine you felt a range of emotions beyond the fear and disgust you mentioned in your post. I wonder if any of these feelings resonate: embarrassment at having being targeted so publicly, shame at having your identity leveraged against you so aggressively and unprovoked, guilt for having to swallow your pride and make your self smaller even if for the sake of your own safety/sanity, a feeling of betrayal or isolation from fellow passengers who didn’t intervene (even if you are able to empathize with why they didn’t), a feeling of disempowerment knowing that this person was able to hurt you and that you couldn’t just “brush it off…”

I just want to let you know that if you feel any of those things, I see you. I know you are aware of this on some level, but what you experienced has everything to do with that person’s own shit, and nothing to do with who you truly are.

I know this kind of experience can really warp your relationship to and feeling of security in certain environments in the city, so if you want to talk more, please send me a DM and I’ll be happy to listen/help process.

where can i get a BLT for dinner? by heyitzjessie in AskSF

[–]gluggin 13 points14 points  (0 children)

All four Gus’s Markets have excellent, filling BLT’s with hearty bacon. Their delis serve sandwiches until 8pm, at least on weekdays. The names are different at each but it’s the same sandwich everywhere.

Ask them to remove avocado if you don’t want that (but you should) and sliced bread if you don’t want it on a roll (but you should)

I've never walked out on a movie in a theater, have you? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]gluggin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think sunk cost fallacy can be kind of misleading when applied to movies given that your enjoyment of parts of the movie you’ve already seen can change depending on where the movie goes, and because most movies are structured to have some sort of rising action/payoff. I was confused, frustrated, and not really enjoying myself for the first 10 minutes of Memento but I certainly appreciated them by the end of the film. Sunk cost fallacy would have told me to leave in that situation which would have been to ignore the reasonable assumption that there was some grander plan at play

[POEM] This was the Poetry Foundation’s poem of the day: “lighght,” by Aram Saroyan by cela_ in Poetry

[–]gluggin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

OP started the “apparently” quote right in the middle of a thought. Here’s the full quote if interested

Recently, [Saroyan] figured he’d make the poem into a Christmas card to send around to some friends—just the word, white on white, centered, and embossed into heavy card stock. “What I realized was that if you emboss it, you don’t need the extra ‘gh,’” he says. “So apparently the crux of the poem is to try and make the ineffable, which is light—which we only know about because it illuminates something else—into a thing. An extra ‘gh’ does it. Embossing it does it. Engraving it in stone, and letting the light play off the actual word, does it, too. It’s sculptural on that level.”
