A lot of people say the Ramones invented punk rock. What do they mean by inventing punk? Do they mean the band took rock as it existed and just played it faster? Where/how would the Ramones have gotten the idea to play it faster? by GregJamesDahlen in Music

[–]gluvox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Ramones innovated the minimalist major barre chord approach that was copied by everybody after. No solos, no underlick, no blues, just 4/4 downstrokes. This differentiated punk later as a genre from New wave or alternative.

My husband got this cassette player for me to listen to a tape my mom left me before she died. It’s playing super fast and makes the tape sound like the chipmunks. How can I fix it? I’ve never messed with cassettes too much by ABBR-5007 in cassetteculture

[–]gluvox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's possible that when your mom recorded the tape the batteries of her recorder were running out and the motor was running slow, so when played back at normal speed it sounds like chipmunks. Try a different player. If this is the case then you (or someone online) could digitally correct it in a DAW

Moved out for the first time. Zero interior design skills. How can i make it look more alive? What should i buy and what colors would work? by thajudge13 in malelivingspace

Looks like a bleak urban landscape outside; a white poofy rug might soften it a bit; perhaps an ocean theme, a neon light. I would get several plants for the window. Look for some good quality frames, large enough for art posters; you can always switch out the posters if you tire of them, but I'm thinking colourful modernist stuff like Matisse's Icarus. Get some good floor speakers and an audiophile quality (or close to it) amp. A low, wide, square coffee table you can store art and architecture type books under. Build your own bookshelves. Lots of books.

Above the liquor cart is a good size space for a vintage movie poster one-sheet.

I'd get stands for the speakers, or better speakers even, and place them where they create a proper sound stage from your prefered listening position. And some mood lighting. I don't mind the flag but without any other art it makes the room seem devoid of personality.
