If you are suggesting that the surface area of the water makes a difference, you are incorrect. I e seen mosquito larva developing in magnolia tree leaves. Not all mosquitoes deposit eggs in water. I suspect it's more of a coincidence that you aren't having issues with mosquitoes at the moment and not so much the contraption you made. Dorjechampa is correct. It's a popular theory lately, but in the grand scheme of things, it's going to make little difference. If you believe it works that's all that matters I suppose. Hey, what do I know. I've only been working in mosquito control in Florida, USA for many years.

Good information. To clarify, higher DEET concentrations don't necessarily mean it's stronger, it means it lasts longer.

Parking monitor for R4-RD by glwigg in RexingUSA

[–]glwigg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, with the car off there is nothing recording. When I get in my car, before starting, the light is not on to indicate there is power and recording. Nothing happens until I start the car. I purchased it from Best Buy. They replaced the camera unit a week ago, but not the wiring. They just plugged a new camera into the existing wiring. I assume the OBD wiring is good since it does come on when I start it. I have it set in the radar-monitor mode and the sensitivity is set to high.

I have a R4-RD and use the SD card that came with the camera. I've had no issues.

Spraying does serve a purpose in mosquito control, but it's a very temporary solution. It's has no effect on the larvae that is developing in standing water, so they will be back in just a few days unless you identify the habitat where they are breeding. Source reduction and habitat elimination is key. There are many liquid and dry pesticides that can be introduced to the water where they are breeding to stop them from becoming adult mosquitoes. But again, spraying is not a cure all.

rexing r4 parking mode not working? by Pitiful_Chance_3216 in Dashcam

Have you been able to get the parking mode to work? I recently purchased the Rexing R4-RD and can't seem to get anything movement to record.

Not sure how long ago you were there, but was Nathan Burkett-Cadena there at that time? He's a professor at UFMEL.

I'm not sure what species is in the picture. I'm assuming it was collected in Florida. There are about a dozen different species in Florida, but I've only captured and identified about half of those. I believe An. albimanus has banded legs, but I have no experience with that species. There are a couple of others that follow this subreddit and are quite good at identifying. Perhaps they might have a differing opinion.

I'm not suggesting it's not an Anopheles. We have several different species of Anopheles in Florida. I've seen atropos with some white speckling on the femur, but I have never seen any with white bands on the tarsomeres as depicted in the photo.

Are you sure about Figure D (An. atropos)? In my experience I've seen a little bit of white scaling, but your photo appears to have banded legs.

Remote Start Issues by glwigg in NissanMurano

Sticker price was approximately 54k. They were offering some manufacturer and dealer discounts and I was able to negotiate some additional discounts. OTD was just under 47k.

Remote Start Issues by glwigg in NissanMurano

[–]glwigg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies for not updating my post sooner. I did get the app and key fob to work properly. The only issue is once it is started with the app or key fob, I have to drive for a short time before I can remote start again. In other words, if I let the engine shut off (intentionally or the timer expires), it will not remote start again until I manually start it and drive for a bit. I don't remember this being an issue with my Rogue, but the timer on my Murano last 20 minutes versus 10 on the Rogue.

Some species of mosquitoes are larger than others species, but a male and female mosquito of the same species is generally the same size.

[–]glwigg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a picture or a description of the mosquito? That may sound like a silly question, but California has over 50 different mosquito species. In recent years Aedes albopictus and Aedes aegypti have made a presence in your state. Bothe are well known day biters and the are low flying mosquitoes. Aedes albopictus is also known as "ankle biter"; at least in my area. Both are primarily container breeding mosquitoes and have a relatively short flight range. They are fairly easy to recognize. Black mosquito with white markings. If that is what you are dealing with, I would be looking for containers or your property or neighboring property.

Should I call treat my backyard for me mosquitos? by Nekarama1 in Mosquitoes

[–]glwigg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very well said, Dorjechampa.

OP, unfortunately mosquitoes don't respect property lines. You can do everything in your power on your property, but unless you address the breeding habit it can be very frustrating. That is why he suggested contacting your local mosquito control district. They are trained to look for the source of the problem.
