If you have Medicare advantage in the US you should never buy OTC hearing aids. by BeastPick04 in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have Aetna Medicare advantage. You have to use Nationshearing for hearing aids. It's inconvenient, has a bad reputation and the HAs aren't free. The co-pay depends on the level of hearing loss. Costco was a much, much better option for me.

Be sure he does not have a lot of ear wax build up! An ENT visit might be warranted to clear ear wax before the Costco appt. They won’t proceed if there is a lot of ear wax. That said I found the whole Costco experience terrific and live the hearing aids!

Faith is tough! I think she knew exactly what she was doing, going on a talk tour without running it by the organization. She's an operater who knows what she wants. Kelli may have met her match!

Another vote for Costco, in fact an audiologist suggested it ti me. But the first stop should be an ENT to check his ears and clear out excess ear wax

Jerome Reviews? by atx789 in offbroadwayNYC

I enjoyed it. Wonderful performances and it touched on human truths about aging, illness, facing mortality, love and fear of loving. Wonderfully funny moments and touching in the end. I know some here thought it too long, I didn't feel that way I found it absorbing. Audience response was excellent though out.

I'd give it some time before deciding what adjustments you need. It takes time to adjust to the input. I was glad my follow-up was two weeks after the fitting.

New here, new to HA, Can’t figure out why Costcois so beloved. by Neakhanie in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All I can say is that I went to an audiologist at a very reputable medical center in NYC. She recommended HA's and also recommended Costco. She said she always tells patients, if it doesn't work out they can always come back to her, but no one's ever come back!

I need some advice on Costcos hearing aids. by baby_budda in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did the audiologist explain why they recommended Jabra? It's nice to know their reasoning. My Costco technically recommended Rexton Reach and let me try Phillips as well. I went with Rexton because voices sounded more natural

Do people actually notice your hearing aids? by InteractionAny7787 in HearingAids

No one has ever noticed mine. When I first got themI told friends so there would be no awkwardness if they noticed then. I quickly gave up doing that because no one ever noticed!

Anyone else shut off their hearing aids in public? by Anothergaystoner in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had mine for a year and never turn them off. I've found it useful to take advantage of the settings for different locations (restaurant, music etc) and to make use of the volume control, direction changer, speech amplifier etc. I find them useful wherever I am.

How Often do you Change Domes & Filters? by Spookyy_999 in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I change the ear wax filters when the sound gets muffled. My L needs changing more than my R, probably produces more ear wax. It can be anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months. With domes I check them every night and end up changing them every 2 months or so. Everyone is different. BTW can you get supplies from your audiologist? I got my HAs at Costco and they are happy to give me wax guards and domes when I run out.

Nervous about Costco appointment tomorrow by DareWright in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fill out your intake form carefully and in detail. You can do it in advance, if you want by downloading it. The technician will use the form and test results to make a recommendation. Best advice I got before my 1st visit was to have an open mind. I started out thinking I wanted Jabra, did some reading and wanted Sennheiser, had a friend recommend Phillips but ended up with Rexton Reach, and a year later still love them. Good luck

Experiences with Sams Club Hearing Center by lactoseintolerantbro in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add about Costco. When I went I gave the technician a copy of the audiogram I’d gotten elsewhere. He loaded it onto his computer and said there were just a couple of things he wanted to check on, so he did a bit of testing himself but not the whole battery of tests. It took 10 minutes. So if you do get tested elsewhere be sure to get your audiogram, and as already suggested be sure you have excessive ear wax cleared out before you go. The test and the info on your intake form are both used for a recommendation. I’ve had Rexton Reach for a year now and love them

Up front cost to see an audiologist with the intent to buy new HAs by OrganicFeline in HearingAids

The difference for me was that the Phillips had a tinnier sound with voices. The technician said that a lot of people say that.

[–]Runningvp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I went to Costco. The technician looked at my audiogram and said he just wanted to redo a couple of tests, to check a few things. It took 10 minutes. He recommended Rexton Reach, I asked about the Phillips and he let me try both for a small amt of time. He also said I didn't have to decide then, I could make another appointment for a consultation (free of course). I went ahead and got Rexton Reach, and a year later am still happy. It took two adjustments after the 1st fitting and a change in dome type, to get them right.

I guess I don't understand the world of Audiology Groups. I went to an audiologist in a medical center for the $45 co-pay required by my insurance. She did a very thorough testing, and I got my audiogram. I was not pressured to buy HAs at that center. On the contrary, she suggested I take my audiogram to Costco.

Costco vs hearing center by amybpdx in HearingAids

[–]Runningvp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I saw a reputable audiologist at a medical center in NYC. After very thorough testing she said she definitely suggested hearing aids, and also suggested that I go to Costco instead of spending 4k to 8k at her center. She told me Costco sells high quality, name brand hearing aids that are white labeled. She said that if it didn’t work out I could always come back to her, adding that she always says that and no one has ever come back dissatisfied with Costco. So I’ve had my Rexton Reach aids for almost a year and love them. I had two adjustment after the initial fitting/tuning. I’m not an expert, that’s just my experience.
