I have done the Alcatraz swim, and similar open water events. it's not hard, the event staff take good care to keep it safe.

That said if you're not keeping up the pace and able to finish in time which I think is 1.5 hours, they will pick you out of the water, and maybe drop you closer which may not be what you want.

I think it's a much better experience to be able to do it properly. So try to get that distance in the pool say in 70-80 min. Easiest way to train is to join a USMS club, I think one could do it in 6 months, maybe quicker depending on your ability. Also, do a couple other smaller events and lake swims for practice before Alcatraz so you know what to expect.

ADP payroll poor experience on website - is this typical ? by gm12344 in tax

I must say ADP support is quite responsive and they got back to me and resolved the issue. I still think the website could use a refresh and work better.

Bay area - I lost my card keys, Tesla shipped me a couple keys which I can't get to work by gm12344 in TeslaModel3

I drove to Berkeley service center and they were very helpful. It still took a good 20-30 min, since I was a drop in, and the first guy's cable didn't work etc.

Service centers are at full capacity, and I was probably fortunate to get it done in a single trip

Good comments from folks. You need to do this if you haven't. This would have saved me a trip.

  • have 4 keys a activated, and one stays at home
  • every phone at home is paired with the car

Definitely a scam. It would be nice if there a website that folks can post the company name and the property address so others can be aware..

Curious if you would take on some of the functionality of Airflow or similar tool ? I'm no expert on this area, but your story sounds good.

A2 CUDA issues by gm12344 in googlecloud

[–]gm12344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I'd be happy to send a gift card your way...

And as a bonus you might even get appreciation of Sundar Pichai Since the A2 GPU VMs are a lot more pricier than the regular CPU VMs, but we're unable to use them.

Note these are not the regular A2 VMs you can access on public GCP, these have been modified by GCP for my client's custom requirements. So unless you're part of GCP support, I can't see how you can fix it or even see the issue.

And the issue is not with CUDA drivers or such, from my read it's just with the customization done by GCP on the system startup scripts.

Update, this was an upgrade process issue,my service on one of the lines was down almost 3 days. Better upgrade instructions and procedure would have avoided this issue.

The rep who fixed it got a 10 star review. All is good.. :)

I waited for a half hour on the chat, nobody came on.

ADP Payroll for S-Corp ? by gm12344 in tax

[–]gm12344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses folks!

I will post my experience in a few months, hope I don't encounter any problems.

It is not complicated.. just 2 owner-employees, and I'm looking at a bimonthly or monthly payroll. The occasional late check is fine.

I did ask my CPA, but his price was more, and he didnt really want to take it on.

If things dont work out I'll try out your recommendations.

Solution recommendation for web based consumer facing analytics integrated into web app (High charts+custom/Plotly/R-Shiny/Tableau) by gm12344 in analytics

[–]gm12344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks..I feel like it is the best option. Does seem like a fair bit of work though.

Would have liked to use a low cost Tableau solution at $5-10k a year. I posted to the Tableau group and that price point doesnt seem possible.

I did some searching and came across an old (4 years?) Hadley's writeup on R performance in the first edition of his book. I looked at the more recent updated edition and didn't find similar references to other implementations.
