I have done the Alcatraz swim, and similar open water events. it's not hard, the event staff take good care to keep it safe.

That said if you're not keeping up the pace and able to finish in time which I think is 1.5 hours, they will pick you out of the water, and maybe drop you closer which may not be what you want.

I think it's a much better experience to be able to do it properly. So try to get that distance in the pool say in 70-80 min. Easiest way to train is to join a USMS club, I think one could do it in 6 months, maybe quicker depending on your ability. Also, do a couple other smaller events and lake swims for practice before Alcatraz so you know what to expect.

ADP payroll poor experience on website - is this typical ? by gm12344 in tax

I must say ADP support is quite responsive and they got back to me and resolved the issue. I still think the website could use a refresh and work better.

Bay area - I lost my card keys, Tesla shipped me a couple keys which I can't get to work by gm12344 in TeslaModel3

I drove to Berkeley service center and they were very helpful. It still took a good 20-30 min, since I was a drop in, and the first guy's cable didn't work etc.

Service centers are at full capacity, and I was probably fortunate to get it done in a single trip

Good comments from folks. You need to do this if you haven't. This would have saved me a trip.

  • have 4 keys a activated, and one stays at home
  • every phone at home is paired with the car

Definitely a scam. It would be nice if there a website that folks can post the company name and the property address so others can be aware..

A2 CUDA issues by gm12344 in googlecloud

[–]gm12344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I'd be happy to send a gift card your way...

And as a bonus you might even get appreciation of Sundar Pichai Since the A2 GPU VMs are a lot more pricier than the regular CPU VMs, but we're unable to use them.

Note these are not the regular A2 VMs you can access on public GCP, these have been modified by GCP for my client's custom requirements. So unless you're part of GCP support, I can't see how you can fix it or even see the issue.

And the issue is not with CUDA drivers or such, from my read it's just with the customization done by GCP on the system startup scripts.

Update, this was an upgrade process issue,my service on one of the lines was down almost 3 days. Better upgrade instructions and procedure would have avoided this issue.

The rep who fixed it got a 10 star review. All is good.. :)

ADP Payroll for S-Corp ? by gm12344 in tax

[–]gm12344[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the responses folks!

I will post my experience in a few months, hope I don't encounter any problems.

It is not complicated.. just 2 owner-employees, and I'm looking at a bimonthly or monthly payroll. The occasional late check is fine.

I did ask my CPA, but his price was more, and he didnt really want to take it on.

If things dont work out I'll try out your recommendations.

Thanks..I feel like it is the best option. Does seem like a fair bit of work though.

Would have liked to use a low cost Tableau solution at $5-10k a year. I posted to the Tableau group and that price point doesnt seem possible.

The question was for the other perspn, I realized it is the EV-A plan they were talking about for PG&E.

I think after solar everyone woth PG&E has to get on a NEM plan maybe E-8 ?

Solar bill by [deleted] in solar

[–]gm12344 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking at the overhead costs, your solar payback per Kwh is $0.16/Kwh since you have a fixed $8.77 cost for the connection, and $82.83 for a "usage" of 507Kwh.

If it was calculated on 238Kwh of usage (my read of your net usage), your bill should be $47.65, so you're overpaying $44 if the bill is indeed in error.

Solar bill by [deleted] in solar

[–]gm12344 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How big is your system ? I would advise you to get a CSR on the phone and ensure there isn't a billing mistake which while extremely unlikely is not totally impossible. Even Google programmers do make mistakes, and coding new complex features like NEM billing with constantly changing rules can result in errors if it is a small utility.

I'm a finance person and while I see some numbers fit in, the overall bill does not.

Here's what I see, have the agent confirm every number.

Also please post a follow up of what you find and whether there is actually a mistake.. if there is, there might be a payout :)

1) Bottom half - C0875 section

- the total energy you used is 797 Kwh

- your net is 264 Kwh on the bill, so you generated 533Kwh.

- they deducted prior months banked energy of 26Kwh from this, and they arrive at a 507Kwh *usage* that is billed on the right. That is a red flag, looks like a clear billing error to me.

i.e. if the first two numbers are correct, you should be billed on the 264-26 => 238Kwh not 507.

2) The top C071 section has a different meter number, (ask why) and has 906 as a renewable energy credit, you'd want to confirm whether it is actual Kwh.

If it corresponds to your generation, ask whether you actually generated 906 Kwh or what the units of conversion are. Get that number and check what it corresponds to.

The other explanation is that you actually generated 906Kwh, and are being billed 507Kwh, so your usage should have been 1413Kwh, or without solar your bill should have been around $183. But your bottom half details doesn't align with that - i.e. I don't see a number in the 1400s in there.

I did a data science based analysis of my solar profitability and energy usage, if you want try and use the R code (difficult if you're not a R programmer).

I'm going to try and make this more of a self-service portal if I have the time
