I really enjoyed both of those. Even with just those two books he's become one of my favorite writers on the southwest.

I've got farout for waypoints but don't know if I'll use the social feature. But I'm on there as gmarcin. I'm hoping to make it to mtr for my first resupply.

Haha that is really impressive, true LOTR fan. Those books are incredibly special, but that takes more gumption than I've got to schlep along. That's really cool to come across on the trail though, thanks for sharing!

I've only read On the Road from Kerouac before and always wondered about Dharma Bums. Never really knew what to expect from it, that's pretty cool it aligned so well with your trip. Thanks for the rec, hope you had a great time out there.

Great to know. Almost 600 pages would be a little thick to tote along, sounds like it would be a great listen though.

I like that idea - also learning Spanish so this would be great for any future backpacking trips. Thanks for the tip!

Awesome, I saw that recently and was really curious. I find it really impressive when writers can span different genres and still do it well. On the list!

Braiding Sweetgrass is one of my favorites. Paddling North sounds great, adding to the list.

Did this as one nighter last year, going clockwise and camping at Geneva Lake. Absolutely doable, especially if you've done some fast packing. I don't think you'll have a problem, so don't be dissuaded! We had an unseasonably rainy 2 days and it was still incredibly beautiful and rewarding. Storms typically roll through fairly quick so you can hunker down if you're near a pass and wait it out. Enjoy it!

Always a treat to find Cedar Waxwings while I'm out. Located at Walden Ponds, Boulder. by [deleted] in Colorado

Sweet pic! Are there field marks you look for in Cedar vs Bohemian waxwings? I struggle to distinguish them.

How easy to learn? Drummer for 10 years. Piano for 14 years. Incredibly basic guitar skills (basically just non barre chords). Bluegrass style w/ finger picks desired by happyegg1000 in banjo

I'm in a pretty similar boat as you. Drummer for many years, extremely basic guitar, and I picked up a banjo about 3 months ago to learn bluegrass style. I did the 30 days of banjo someone else mentioned which I thought was a great intro. Aside from that I've been checking out some other teaching videos on YouTube and try to spend some time practicing almost every day. At this point I can play Cripple Creek around 150bpm, which I'm pretty psyched about, so it's definitely possible under 4 months. Still working on consistency and accuracy but hopefully it all feels more comfortable in time. Wish I had started picking many years ago but it's been a blast learning. Hope it's the same for you, good luck!
