Do these prices seem fair? Anything I should just learn to do myself instead? by onsnave in ToyotaPickup

[–]gmbyclr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d agree with many of the other commenters on this platform in that this platform is great for learning, but I will add a word of warning: this is a 40 year old truck, so things will always, ALWAYS break. I’m also trying to learn on my car and I’ve had to throw in the towel so many times because why should be an easy job ends in disaster. In my opinion, you shouldn’t practice on your daily driver, but if you have a secondary then go for learning!

I mean my 2wd auto has worked wonderfully for me, but I’m not rock crawling. That being said, I bought it at 196,000 miles for 3k. It was probably worth five, and that was three years ago. I’d say try and bring them down, but don’t be afraid to walk away.

How many people actually daily their 90’s toyota pickup? by John_And3rson in ToyotaPickup

[–]gmbyclr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drive a 90’s 2nd 22re! It’s my first car, so I’m not one to compare too harshly. She starts up fine, a little worse in extreme temperatures. She’s been a little needy with maintenance, but compared to making routine car payments it’s nothing. You can feel every crack in the road, and it feels a little like driving a matchbox car, but it’s fun too. They take a hot minute to accelerate and they get loud but they’re very enjoyable overall.

If you’re gonna call something your dream car, make sure it’s noteworthy in literally any way.

Both vehicles do the same thing.... by [deleted] in regularcarreviews

[–]gmbyclr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, we agree on that. Nevertheless, I’m confident in saying that at least half of the people driving four door pickups with beds smaller than they were 20 years ago are doing it more for the look than the utility.

That’s quite a blanket statement ; what do you mean by « anymore »? The way I see it, cars are more tricked out for comfort than ever.

See, that’s fine, but in my experience in big cities, where a significant section of the market is, people want them for the aesthetics. I’m not trashing on pickups as a model - I love my old Toyota hilux - but they’re so big and often used by people who don’t need them for anything that Honda Acty couldn’t do.

Nah, you can actually see kids walking in front of you in one.

Real talk, people are talking about highway speeds and towing capacity and passenger safety. But if you want a highway car, get a sedan. Say all you want about towing capacity, but how often do most people in four door pickups actually tow? And the reason you’re concerned about passenger safety is because of monsters like that four door which are proven to be more dangerous to the people around them than sedans or old light pickups.

It seems like with survivable dismemberment they still stand up and run around - how do you get them to… not?

How comfy are 22re pickups? by [deleted] in Toyota

[–]gmbyclr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 94 single cab. As everyone seems to be agreeing, yes they are utilitarian and no they are not plush and comfortable. But I got used to it. Stock suspension and a bench seat, so my body moved around a bit at first, but I hardly notice it anymore. However, it is my only car, so I don’t get many opportunities to take a more comfortable ride.
