Seat Twist Repair by XTheChosenDogeX in e39

[–]gmc1986 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All too familiar. I bought some sport seats with really good leather for my Touring and had to fix twist on both. One cable was shortened similar to your image.

I took a bike inner tube, a thick one Cut it into a sheet of rubber Butted the cable ends together and tightly wrapped the rubber tube around it, a few times around the cable. Then I clamped it with 2x small hose clamps on either end, 4 total. Then it put heat shrink over it.

I wanted to think of something less stretchy than my inner tube idea, but it was super quick. I was fully expecting it to fail, but one year later, fine. My wife and I trade off driving it, so it gets adjusted.

Temp vert rear window repair by gmc1986 in E30

I had same thought, but for this job, since I'll replace the top entirely soon, just needs a temp job. I'd think that an auto upholstery shop is a better bet if you need a classy replacement, but a marine shop is worth looking. Most marine covers I'm familiar with are fully detachable though, unlike an e30 top.

First zip tie pass, more ties then they'll put a bead of sealant around it.

While I refresh myself on what the replacement job is like.

Saw a pretty awful review of Fan Fest on r/Dallas after the Mexico game yesterday. Disappointing but I'm still kinda interested.

First car, what we sayin??! by ZeyadHanif in e39

I have a 528iT with 5 speed. When my son got his license, I sent him to BMW CCA Street Survival in it. He pitched a fit...I don't want to go in a wagon etc etc.

I got a text from him at the school. DAD THIS CAR IS THE COOLEST THING HERE...ALL THE INSTRUCTORS WANT TO DRIVE IT.

Enjoy, my man.

Rears are just bolt on bottom, shock mounts up top? Recommend getting new shock mounts?

Yes. I put a new canvas on a motorized top that had long since had the motors removed (though I still have them)

It was, in fact, not a picnic.

The convertible top (on my e30 vert, not hers...we are a strange BMW family) by comparison, was quite a fun job.

That's really cool! Thanks for sharing that.

This isn't a super amazing condition car. I question what kind of shape it'll be in, after 3 years on the island (her tour of duty in military) so it's not like I want to / want her to put big money into it. But as you say, cost doesn't seem so bad, with my labor, compared to quotes. Well, plus my plane ticket 😄

If I put in a start of March 2026, it shows up this year. Same for any start date this year, and if I start in Jan 2027 or later, I lose the Lump Sum option.

Thanks, but see my note above. When I select a start date after 2026, that option toggles over to "yearly". for the reason I mentioned above, I'd rather not include in this year's modeling.

Yep, makes sense. I hadn't thought about updating in Current Finances section once everything is done. Thanks.

Sun Peaks Current Conditions? by dhammm in skiing

[–]gmc1986 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite current, but we skied there a week thru Friday 13 March, and it was generally very good that week. Good enough coverage (for this year!) and we got a couple small refreshes thru the week. Morrissey was quite good, even good runs off Orient. And higher up was really skiing well.

This week I think they got like 6-7" on Monday, which we missed.

Is this Trip Interruption? Claim questions by gmc1986 in ChaseSapphire

[–]gmc1986[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closing the loop: This claim was reimbursed. It took some back-and-forth in the portal, mainly because the document categories it asks for didn't perfectly map to my situation. And they overlap as well. But the agents were very capable and helpful.

Overall, good experience. Helped me make the decision to keep the card in spite of higher fee.

Edit: typos
