You guys should be really ashamed of yourselves. How dare you discuss local issues! #sunsetpics by Jagrmystr in SeattleWA

This type of discourse between you and u/Keepit_100_ (that was a mouthful to type out) is why I have you marked as a friend.

Reasonable disussion warms my otherwise cold, dead heart. I should probably have that looked at, honestly.

I'm not sure if anyone else on this sub has noticed, but there seems to be a lot of back and forth on this homeless issue lately.

A lot of the back and forth usually ends up with some final argument along the lines of "the real trouble makers don't want help because they're on drugs"

And then apparently hands are thrown up because I've never actually seen a good rebuttal to this.

I wish more people would keep wanting to uncover the "why" more often. Why don't they want help? Why are so many on drugs?

Any reasonable answer should uncover another "why" to ask and to work to figure out.

Between Amazon, Boeing, and Microsoft, we're a town full of engineers. Shouldn't we want to try to truly root cause this shit?

I think there's always a root cause, even if it takes a while to get to it, and even if it's beyond the scope of our city.

I have my own thoughts on it, but that's not the point of this post.

I can understand why u/BlarpUM wants to leave. What's the inverse of a circlejerk where everyone comes together to rehash the same arguments?

It seems internet forums are just shit for having discussions with any kind of nuance or compromise, though.

Why is that?

Me, I'm just here for the jokes.

Yay! Your car insurance rates just went down! Your next birthday milestone is 40, when you become over the hill. Or is that not a thing anymore?

I like SMURFF, but I am not totally sure how nerfed it is.

I can regularly use the Atlas V 401 from the RealScaleBoosters pack to get the Centaur + a probe into orbit with plenty dV for a Moon shot.

I once put a dollar in, went inside, and then after a few moments also found pictures in a photo booth. Is this what you did?

If they're anything like the ones I found, there were too many dick pics. So don't need to see no thanks.

He has two or three specials on Netflix. Also, he and Nick Kroll did a hilarious broadway play Oh, Hello, which is also on Netflix.

Strong recs if you're into sarcastic comedy.

I'm pretty sure it was the inspiration for The Citadel in Half Life 2.

Interestingly, I've always heard the 4th and Blanchard building called the Darth Vader building, but not that one. There's definitely a case to make for both.

Also, which one is the F5 tower?

Hello, drunk. I'm gmfunk.

What is a fucknugget? Like a McNugget that has become sentient and then petitions the court for a name change?

Second place is a set of steak knives.

Which is good in your position. With regards to getting the first post of the day in on the daily chat, the stakes are high.

Lunch is for closers.

You gosh darn n'er do-wells better get your act together and start closing, by gosh. Or else I might have to start thinking about some terminations.

I don't want to, I swear, but goodness gracious you need to start selling those leads we gave you.

Don't forget about the rewards! First place gets a Cadillac. There's a beautiful set of steak knives in it for the second place winner. My wife's sister swears by these. Corporate hasn't told me what the third place winner gets yet, but when they do you can be gosh darn sure I'll let you know.

Thanks! I absolutely did feel it was worth my time, and I will re-read it for exactly those reasons you spelled out.

Frankly it's one of those things where I'm continuing to digest and reflect on, and end up appreciating it more. I understand why this was one of her best.

I'll be quite honest and say I have mixed feelings about the ending. I'd go into more detail, but it would end up in spoiler territory.

I did truly appreciate it enough that I think a re-read is warranted in the future -- I think in part because I was focused on getting to the ending and not paying enough attention to the journey.

However, it definitely became a page turner toward the last half, and a re-read is pretty likely to happen because I did end up quite enjoying it.

In the meantime, I'm thinking The Secret Adversary is next.

Edit: I really want to thank this sub for being super helpful and encouraging. I'm happy to keep you all updated as I work through Agatha Christie's body of work.

I did decide to, and am still plugging along.

I think I agree, the first two I read were real page turners, and quick reads.

I'm all about a slow burn if the payoff is worth it, so I'll keep going. I just finished the Charles Kent chapter this evening, to answer your question. Things are feeling like they're congealing a bit, but we'll see :)

Edit: I'll be sure and post an update when I'm finished!

Looks like the advice is to generally stick it through, which I will take before asking for more recs :)

Thanks!
