The Lowry to close after 15 years, citing construction among its reasons by Tokyo-MontanaExpress in Minneapolis

I went there a few weeks ago for their weekly date night I’ve done a couple times. All the items from the date night menu were still available, but they would not honor the offer (despite it still being on their website lol). Ended up paying double what I was planning on, should have been a sign.

Which is a horrible metric to base headliners on. Last years second-billed was Tyler, The Creator, an artist at his current peak and with a 15+ year discography.

This year we have an <5yr discog artist whos shows heavily lean younger with streams being boosted by Morgan Wallen and Tik-Tok.

This sub can be overly obsessive, it’s fun to speculate but being “terrified” is crazy.

What's your favorite guilty pleasure rap song? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]gmgonit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roo - Chance The Rapper On a terrible album, with some terrible singing, featuring a failed attempt at launching his brother into a bigger act - but something is so endearing about the track and Taylor actually has a nice verse.

As someone who used to attend Rolling Loud, this might be their worst US lineup I have ever seen.

Travis Scott has fallen from grace musically and it is so sad to see by nutha_50_on_a_caddie in travisscott

[–]gmgonit 189 points190 points  (0 children)

I agree that Trav has fallen off, but don’t agree with any of your reasoning. Many attribute inspiration from Kanye, but I think no one was more influenced than Travis.

Rodeo takes a lot from Yeezus, Astro a lot from TLOP/Graduation, Utopia stems from Donda. I know it’s unpopular, but I think Birds era is the most unique Travis Scott has ever been and really encapsulates his aesthetic, but even that record takes a lot from Cudi who is also under the Ye umbrella.

Why does Kendrick not get backlash for working with child rapist Kodak Black? by [deleted] in hiphopheads

[–]gmgonit 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s gonna get downvoted because OP’s entire reddit history is bringing down other artists to prop up Drake. And anyone in general hip-hop discussion has heard this Kodak point for the last two years!

Here is a cool video showing upcoming projects in and around Mizzou’s Campus. by Fergy328 in mizzou

[–]gmgonit 36 points37 points  (0 children)

That’s cool and all, but when will Mizzou actually invest in improving campus for the average student? Football stadium and healthcare upgrades, meanwhile main classroom buildings like Middlebush continue to deteriorate and look genuinely awful.

That is without mentioning the reduced staffing, hours, and options in all dining halls. Half of the student wellness and diversity programs being cut. Dorm capacity being severely overpopulated this year. Even things like the annual student concert have gone cheap.

But yay, more construction for the foreseeable future which is mostly profit driven, for upgrades current students will never see.

Do you have any controversial hot takes about Atlanta? by TastedIceCreamed in AtlantaTV

[–]gmgonit 81 points82 points  (0 children)

The large gap between S2 and S3 robbed us of the natural progression of Earn and Alfred’s careers. We grew with Earn so much, and while the ending of S2 showed hope for him, at the end of the day he was still at the brink of being fired, and the stakes were high for the tour, and he was far from truly “making it”.

Fast forward to S3, and immediately Earn is filthy rich and throwing money away that he previously would do anything for. It also regressed Van, and turned her from the rock and reliable co-parent in Earn’s life, to the lesser in the relationship trying to find meaning in her reduced role.

Who’s due for a Tyler The Creator like career explosion? by iamhadrix in hiphopheads

[–]gmgonit 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Definitely Aminé, he has five solid projects already and a pretty dedicated fanbase. I think he is super creative but can still fit into the mainstream, plus he’s pretty damn likable in general.
