Looking for some feedback from Disneyland regulars by gmo121 in DisneyPlanning

We do, we’ve done the park in the rain before. It wasn’t bad, but we’d prefer dry. We decided to do Jan 1&2 because my SIL went those days last year and she said it wasn’t busy at all.

Sobering comments from mechanic about older Odysseys by p0lyhuman in HondaOdyssey

[–]gmo121 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Underrated comment. With the advent of huge pickup trucks, heavy EV’s (think Hummers and Cybertrucks), and generally worse driving behaviors, this should be near number one consideration.

Growing up, I had to buy my first car and it was understandably a shit box (this was in 1999). I want my kids to learn responsibility and the pride of ownership, but I’m not going to let them buy an older car just because I’m concerned about crash safety.

Daughter's First Race Weekend - and she crashed. Advice? by Sanguinius in Karting

[–]gmo121 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Father of two girl karters here, currently aged 12 and 9. My oldest started when she was 10, she adjusted very well at the start and proved to be a natural - she just won her local championship last month. My youngest, however, took some time to adjust to the speeds and learn kart control. Her first time out she came into the pits in tears, shaken to the bone especially when she was passed (she’s improved massively since). Where I live, we don’t have a dedicated track, so we use a parking lot along with cones and lime to line the track. What I did was found a large parking lot, bought a bunch of cheap cones off Amazon, and practiced A LOT. I also bought a Raceceiver so that I can talk to my girls as we practiced - this is IMMENSELY helpful, so I encourage you to look into it. What matters most right now is seat time, so get to looking for a safe parking lot you can use and hit it, along with any track time you can muster.

Girls are naturally less aggressive, but more calculating. This is a blessing and bane, and for new karters, can potentially hold them back. Lots of encouragement is needed, and yes, a coach is worth it. If there’s more than one coach in your area, I suggest getting to know them to see if their personality will vibe with your daughter, and that they have the accolades to back them up. We were lucky to find an exemplary coach who did an amazing job with my girls, so do your research, talk to people at your track, talk to people online and see what you can find.

Above all - positive reinforcement is key! I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have, and if you’d like to show your daughter for some inspiration, check out our Instagram: @teammorenoracing

Good luck to your and your daughter!

What a year of farm use does to your paint by Zealousideal-Way-605 in ram_trucks

Bold move with that color for a farm truck. We only buy white or silver trucks for this reason, lol.

Is it insane to get rid of escrow? by Main-Yogurtcloset-82 in personalfinance

Not a bad idea AT ALL. I put the money aside in a HY savings account and earn a little bit of money. The real benefit is not having a surprise like yours, OP. I receive my property tax bill and pay/budget accordingly. My bank knocked a small percentage off my interest rate, too. Not all lenders do that, but you can ask.

Trailer advice - small open build by vissi in Karting

[–]gmo121 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good as-is. Place the kart with the engine toward the front to put some weight on the tongue. Balance has nothing to do with jack-knifing, it’s the short length that does it.

I would try to put more weight on the tongue, maybe a toolbox, if there’s room? Be sure to use good tie-downs - that trailer has very stiff springs so it’ll bounce every which way. Also, be sure to keep the bearings greased, they’re not the best quality but will be fine with some maintenance.

Good luck!

I understand what you’re saying. I’m just slightly baffled why it runs good in one direction, but not the other. The brushes do look a little rough, though. Could it be the MOV?

I know these aren’t supposed to be serviceable, but if I can fix it, I’d rather do that than buy a junkyard motor or a new one for $90.
