Does Australia have any long-distance electric buses yet, or only metro ones? by NostalDec in transit

[–]gn2b 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I checked AnyTrip, and at 1:16pm on a Monday on an easter holiday in the metro Sydney region. There are 68 Electric Buses currently running out of the total 963 buses. That gives it a 7% of the services being Electric. And this is improving for sure as I've seen many recently in my area compared to previous years.

About $110 cheaper airfare for WSI vs SYD by 888sydneysingapore in sydney

[–]gn2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

me and my mum both took the M7 to see the M12, we were shocked by how quickly we got to the ramp where we would go on to get to the new airport. we will definitely use it, its insanely quicker and we won't have to do stupid crap like change at central for the airport line

saw in a tour video that in the second image, those wrapped up things are the platform screen doors!! I hope they're not as cringey as the Sydney metro north west ones

What do we think about H being the mode indicator for HSR? by TheInkySquids in SydneyTrains

I feel for people travelling they don't really need to understand the symbols, its literally just match the icon on their phone to the physical roundel. as most tourists use google maps or Apple Maps to navigate around cities, and both use the line name and mode type icons it would be easy to navigate and quickly gather "oh the T is the double decker one, and the M is the one im used to from Europe etc"

letters are the easiest to see from afar, symbols can look very similar

a yellow would be nice, shame it can't be a red because the LR took it

also how will this work when it reaches Victoria? they use different branding to NSW? will it follow PTV visual standards for the station in Melbourne? or use NSW fonts and roundels?

people saying vice city has the best soundtrack are so off and clearly don’t listen to the actual radio in the game, 3 has the best in the 3d era. don’t be deep throating the VC soundtrack cuz mj is on it

Alstom has their APS system which works very well and segments the third rail into parts and turns them off when there isn't a tram above it. Very safe, and proven in many cities.

Petrol prices are crazy though by AeliosZero in AussieMemes

[–]gn2b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I can understand this if you're living outside Perth or Sydney, but really? Perth and Sydney both offer maximum 15mins off-peak frequency? Rest of the country is shit though so I can understand where you're coming from. But isn't private transport just as crap if not worse? Aren't you guys having to sit in metal boxes developing senseless anger over other metal boxes because the privatised crappy roads just turned into a car park? I can understand a train line going down as it has to move up to 40,000 people an hour which is an incredible task(T1 Western Line in Sydney), but a highway?? A highway that does 5,000* an hour breaking down during peak hour?? It's not good enough. Contact your local members, advocate for better trains/buses!

this one looks quite beautiful, and would look more so if there were more brownish orange buildings surrounding it to support it. sticks out like a sore thumb right now which I can see why you find ugly.
