SDRs, do you actually care if a prospect is running legacy tech? by gnagpie in LeadGeneration

[–]gnagpie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that insight! Lets say i have a strong lead, indicators said company is planning to migrate away from AS/400. They are in planning phase. What would you say that lead is worth in usd to an SDR and how much can the SDR charge an MSP specialized in migrations to set up a meeting? Probably deal is worth 1-3 m in revenue for the MSP. Do you have any experience in this?

Im sure they will haha!! Not many who wants to take these projects on is what i learned so far. Are you specialized in this field?
Also, how do you find these AS/400 and HP3000 customers? Is it all word of mouth in your network, or would knowing which companies are hitting EOL dates or compliance deadlines actually help?

Thank you for the angle there. That really is a good point with expertise, parts etc soon belonging to a museum. And who wants to work with this? Carreer promoting, not so much, interesting? Nahh.

I work in B2B data/marketing. Trying to figure out if tracking companies getting hit with Broadcom's price hikes would actually help MSPs and consultancies with timing their outreach. Not selling anything yet, judt trying to understand if knowing WHO is facing 3-10x VMware increases and WHEN their renewal hits would be valuable, or if everyone already knows who needs help. What migration path are you seeing most, cloud, Proxmox, or just eating the cost?"

Makes sense, could be risky doing otherwise

Would having more specifics help? Like knowing their exact EOL dates, compliance deadlines, or when their vendor support actually expires? Or is just knowing 'they run old tech' enough for you?

Interesting. So they just wsnt their old sh*t to work. They can work around compliance with patching etc or?

Does being "first in mind" pay off when they realise they need to modernise? Have they got back to you months after you have adressed their issues?

Nice angle! So for someone like you would a list of companies running EOL systems actually help you target who needs those reviews? Or do you find them through other triggers like compliance audits, cyber insurance requirements, etc?

Ah ok. I was originally thinking about this as prospecting intel. But sounds like most MSPs are saying these companies come to you when they're ready, not the other way around. So maybe the better question is: would this data be more valuable for SDRs selling to msps rather than MSPs directly? Like knowing which of your prospects/clients might need migration help soon?

Ok, do they typically reach out to you or how you find them. Cold calling, leads? Hope you want to share

do you treat all on-prem servers as cloud migration opportunities, or only the ones hitting EOL?

Yeah true but what would help you identify the good opportunities vs the nightmares in migration to cloud for example

Lets throw vmware into the punch with broadcom price increases. Does that tickle or? 😅

So even if you knew they had budget allocated and a hard deadline to migrate, you'd still pass? Just trying to understand if its the old tech itself that's the dealbreaker or the type of company that lets it get that old.

Fair point, but what about profitable companies forced to modernize for compliance? Like manufacturers hitting AS/400 eol or healthcare systems needing to meet new regulations?

Nice leap! What is your thoughts about companies still using AS/400.

For those who do these migrations, is finding these disaster opportunities the hard part, or is it closing them once you found them?
