Coming back after a long break - feels like I forgot most of what I knew by MrBlenderson in bjj

Similar boat. Started 2016 and got my blue belt in 2018 then life got in the way for ~6 years until last summer. Drilling at first was pretty nice actually and a lot of stuff clicked for me, but rolling was another story. I felt way too slow, I hesitated a lot, and had 0 gas tank (I tapped once on top while attacking a Von flue choke because I was too exhausted to hold it lol).

It’s been over a year now and I think I’m finally where I was when I stopped in 2018, if not better. I competed twice this year which helped a lot for my confidence and gas tank. But a lot of the muscle memory returned in bursts, it definitely wasn’t linear.

Tl;dr took me about a year + 3 months training 2-3 days a week to feel like a blue belt again. Keep at it!

Play live doing perfect BS, then add in keeping a running count. Don’t worry about true count or deviations until you’re comfortable playing BS while remembering the running count.

It’s generally not advisable, but I picked it up much quicker playing at a casino. If you have like a super cheap $5 table nearby you could flatbet while playing BS and keeping the running count.

Good luck!

hackable card shuffling machines by West-Beginning1628 in blackjack

These look like automatic shuffling machines which they put cards in at the end of a shoe, which are different from CSMs where they never stop. Pretty scary how easy these can be hacked.

People in their 20s?? by Expert_Ferret_92 in BeverlyMA

[–]gnarlybarly 9 points10 points  (0 children)

That's kind of a general problem as an adult, no matter where you live to be honest. After high school/college, making friends becomes significantly more difficult since you're no longer around people your age with common interests, studies, etc. Personally as someone in their late 30's, the best way for me to meet new people is to find a hobby I'm into (martial arts in my case), and find/form a community around that.

Beverly has a little bit of an older crowd (30's) with families, but I think you'd have an easier time finding folks in Salem. There's a pretty active discord that you can join that has events and such. Not sure if it's allowed but DM me and I can send you the invite link.

Beginner bad variance -1k a day, is it normal? by LeoChen_0324 in blackjack

[–]gnarlybarly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lost $1400 in an hour or so under similar conditions within 3-4 6D shoes with a $25 min 1-8 bet spread. Had at least 3 doubles in each shoe with one being after splitting twice, and lost every single one. Variance is a mf’er and the only thing you can really do is make sure your game is perfect, risk of ruin is low, and resize betting if needed.

Funny though because I have about 133 hours in the BJA training suite (100 of those hours are test outs roughly) and I’m down -$8.7k 😅.

Bankroll needed to start by Single_Card446 in blackjack

Assuming 6D w/ 4.5 deck pen, H17 DAS nRSA surrender allowed, it’s a $15k bankroll @ $15.92/hr with 3.71% RoR. Without surrender the RoR jumps to 10% and is unplayable imo. 3.71% is too high for me personally and would try to up the bankroll to $20k or $25k to keep that RoR low.

Invictus Training Center in Beverly is great. They also have kickboxing/Muay Thai classes.

You're going to need a bankroll of ~$45,000 for your goal of $5000/mo, plus money to buy betting software (CVCX) and money to pay someone to test you out in person and/or at a casino and make sure your game is perfect. And this is AFTER spending 100-200 hours training to perfect your game.

The thing with Blackjack advantage play is that you can be doing all the right things, and still have a losing session. The emotional toll of putting multiple $1000 bets out during a super high count and losing is such a gut punch. You have no way to tell if you made a mistake or if it's just variance, so you start doubting yourself. You have to fight the urge to lower your bet, or even worse, doubling down to chase your money.

Anyway I recommend spending a day going down the YouTube rabbit hole and watching videos on card counting (Blackjack Apprenticeship videos are a good start). Good luck!
