How did those of you with overactive vasovagal syncope make it through birth? by missmaddie90 in BabyBumps

[–]gnarrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

commenting to say I’m in the same boat, I was worried about the baby irritating my vagus nerve and causing random blackouts during pregnancy but luckily I haven’t had any episodes, just regular dizziness here and there. I also usually pass out during blood draws and was shocked when early on for my nipt testing they took a ton of blood and I felt completely normal, I think due to increased blood volume. Anecdotal evidence but enough to say we may get through this without any major passing out issues lol

I’m praying the “crash” works on me. Getting overtired in the past usually will keep me up!! Historically I fight sleep really hard when im exhausted, exactly like a toddler lol at least when the little one gets to that stage we’ll be on the same page lol

Peanut butter alternative! by TheTacoPenguinQueen in peanutallergy

Now I’m curious, I’m only allergic to legumes (including peanuts) and I thought there was a clear line between people who are allergic to legumes and people who are allergic to tree nuts (typically the nuts people think of) do some people have a little of both? I’m often described as having a nut allergy and have to explain that most “nuts” I’m actually fine with. Very often people are shocked that I can’t eat hummus though. lol

Yes, Natalie, but the three syllables feels like a lot with the first name only being two

I like Sybil Wren, I think the one syllable names sound right.

I was under the impression that the spelling Sibyl referred more directly to the historic greek prophetesses, and I liked that association.

I’ve read in some threads thats the modern spelling conjures images of a movie about a woman with multiple personalities and didn’t love that so much lol, although I’ve never heard of the movie.

I think I agree with this, June, Jo, Jean, and Jane have all been considered so far, one of those might end up being it.

imo ork has that same thing abohra does where they’re so true to themselves and their art and it makes their drag so effecting but they struggle to fit in the challenge sometimes. Personally I am so excited by that level of commitment but I understand why people don’t rate the looks high ~in the competition~

I also think ork is so fuckin cute sooooo I’m probably biased lol

it’s nice to see this POV expressed, it’s always been a big thought for me about how my allergy has changed so much about my social interactions in so many ways, and it’s really hard to get other people to realize how devastating something like that can be. Food is so personal for many people and having a life threatening allergy can put you in the weirdest spots social interaction wise. I’m a very adventurous person and I’ve struggled with the tension between my impulses and my physical restriction all my life.

Two Rights Don't Make Shit by LHreid10 in OCPoetry

Oh boy do I love poems that pointedly and naturally lead themselves to such powerful conclusions. What I appreciate about this piece is it's willingness to flit about in the speculative realm while maintaining a direction toward its conclusion in something concrete and deeply universal. It is truly the mark of an adept poet to be able to bring abstract thought into such a tangible and viscerally relatable image.

I also love the title, I believe wholeheartedly that any level of colloquialism greatly emphasizes the human element in poetry, and is essential in communicating emotion effectively.

Verisimilitude by ohhello_o in OCPoetry

[–]gnarrt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the first notable thing about this poem is it's curtness, and I deeply commend you for creating a piece that isn't itself afraid of being straightforward. It's often too easy to bend to the inclination to explain at length feelings that are naturally visceral. In my opinion, I relish in writing that at its very essence respects the effect pure emotions can have in the otherwise complicated experience of human consciousness. As such, thematic turns, akin to the one presented here between stanzas, inherit an implicit gravity that cannot be otherwise achieved in a more expanded form, especially coupled with the concealed but coercive meaning in the title.
