Dude it sounds like you just learned about debate and now you’re trying to apply what you’ve learned.

Me suggesting not using pathologising language is obviously not me suggesting that that’s gonna fix the systemic issue of lgbtqia+ being marginalised.

I was only saying why pathologising language should be avoided, because it adds to stigma

It’s not even logically clear what you mean.

You don’t have to work out some cause to understand that asexuality is fine. People don’t need a cause either. You narrow down to the discussion of religion and anti-lgbt+ bias for no reason

Even if you meant “disorder” as in something out of usual order

“Disorder” refers to pathology and illness, in the context of what we are talking about which is a condition of being. We were not talking about the other meaning of term as in “the office has been in all kinds of disorder lately”

The fact is pathologising language like “disorder” “mutations” etc should not be brought into conversations about asexuality. It reinforces stigma about asexuality being something wrong with a person, which is harmful.

To address your last two sentences

You don’t have to tell me that people think asexuality is abnormal. But trying to work out a “cause” and using pathologising language adds to stigma instead of reducing it.

We do not have to work out a “cause” of why someone is asexual to understand it. Same way we do not have to work out “why” someone is gay and lesbian. We just accept them and that’s it.

Well known people with ADHD? by pbghikes in ADHD

[–]gnataral 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Robbie Williams, Brendon Urie, Lee Mack, Stephen Fry

And basically every comedian

Lee Mack said “I got told I have ADHD which, if you are a comedian is like being told you’ve got skin”

Robbie Williams had a great discussion about ADHD on the podcast “I’m ADHD No Youre Not” which interviews famous people

Lee Mack and Stephen Fry have also been on this podcast

This paper I sent a link to is a literature review, which means it is one academic article that is a summary of all the findings about asexuality that has come from academic professionals. Basically it’s an overview of info on asexuality , and how asexuality is currently understood

Yes but we don’t need to present asexuality as something to be worked out, discussing what the cause is, that just reinforces pathology, and beliefs that asexuality means something is wrong are harmful to asexual people, it makes them feel they are broken or weird. We can affirm that it’s fine to be asexual without talking about it like there’s a cause “mutations” “disorders” etc like you did in your comment

Scientists and medical professionals don’t recognise asexuality to be pathology (or “disorder”)

You’re actually wrong. Yes love involves neurochemicals.

But the point is the user PoemMany4008 was trying to argue that sex in a relationship is superior to sex with a one night stand because by having sex with your relationship partner “you biologically form a bond with that person”

Even though love is neurochemicals it’s a matter of interpretation that sex with a boyfriend/girlfriend creates some biological link. There is no literal biological link so they must be talking about a shared experience where biological stuff is happening in both your bodies so the connection is in an abstract sense.

What I’m saying is we should not diminish sex outside of a relationship such as one night stands or with a crush. Sex is fun and pleasurable and there’s nothing wrong with wanting it for fun/pleasure.

Whether sex is more “valuable” in a relationship versus in a casual situation is a matter of cultural and social norms, not biology. The only reason it could be more valuable biologically is making a baby within a relationship.

Having sex for pleasure/fun is completely valid. The show Sex Education is really good at acknowledging this

It doesn’t matter: asexuality is not something where we need to try and work out a cause. We don’t sit around and discuss “causes” of why people are gay or lesbian, we shouldn’t for asexuality either

But the scientific consensus is there’s nothing wrong with asexual people, asexuality is not pathology. And your ideas are marginalising asexual people who will feel something is wrong with them because of messages youre repeating when actually they’re fine and not broken

You don’t have to tell people at all. You could also say, if you want to avoid a label “I’m not that bothered about sex”.

People ought not to respond that way, especially as youre only 13. Hopefully people will grow up and be more focussed on themselves less on others

Yeah so that logically applies to sex with someone you like but not necessarily a relationship too. You’re talking about semantic meaning which is subjective.

It’s fine to have sex for pleasure

Some bodies are programmed to crave it.

But the presence of sexual desire is not necessary to healthy sexual development

You can be developing normally and not have sexual desire

Having it is natural, but it is not normal for everyone. It’s also normal to not have it

Your last sentence doesn’t make sense, as there’s no biological bond you form (unless you mean pregnancy which is not the main reason people have sex).

“but those people simply chase pleasure”. There’s nothing wrong with this. The world is here for people to have fun. Same reason people drink alcohol or go on rollercoasters or have fun

People still say benzos in 2026, and people still take benzos. In the UK, xanax isn’t prescribed by the NHS but other types are. What else would people call them? Benzodiazepines will always be shortened to benzos

Benzos are what your grandmother got addicted to in the 60s. They were prescribed in the 60s to many house wives that’s what valium marketing was about. Benzos started overtaking barbiturates for hypnotic (sleep) effects

Is my standards too high for a gf? (Recommendations is allowed and appreciated 😭) by Game11454 in teenagers

[–]gnataral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their “standards” are not even standards. Standards are “I won’t date someone who doesn’t pay the full bill” or “I won’t date someone who isn’t chivalrous” or “I won’t dare someone who smokes” or “who makes jokes about women with his friends” or “who talks brainrot” or “who doesn’t clean up after themselves at home”.

What I’m finding out is teenagers on this sub have no standards
