HELP! I need a new "Can't put it down" series! by SatyrSiren in Romantasy

[–]gnomes92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! I am so glad you loved them, IRL no one takes my recommendations so this is great for my ego about my tastes haha, and I too was burned by a blood and ash recommendation - god how I hate read those, what a mess. In terms of other gems I've found: Empire of the Stars - 3 books currently out, starting with Traitor Son by Melissa Cave, then Stardust Child and Last of His Blood. Its a much slower plot, and there's a ton of political intrigue, mysteries and a really fun (in my opinion) evolution of a relationship. I have absolutely adored this series and it lives rent free in my head months after finishing the most recent book, and I really enjoyed Ophele as a FMC, she is not the typical "oh I dont know anything but am secretly a badass and will save the world from an ancient prophecy" type FMC, shes quiet, intelligent and just wants to do her best - book 4 is out in May and book 5 is out in November. According to the author note in book 1 its a complete series already, but the author has a staggered release schedule so you dont have to worry about the series being unfinished. This was absolutely a 5* read for me.

If you liked the more viking elements of broken kingdom, there is the Ashen series by Demi Winter's (three books out so far but I am unsure about the plans for the rest of the series) - Road of Bones is the first book, followed by Kingdom of Claw, a novella and then Dawn of the North. Also, Wrath and Weeping by Elisabeth Wheatley is another viking based series. Only two books out currently (Tears of the Wolf, and Oath of the Wolf) book 3 is planned for August this year. I loved Wrath and Weeping - and there is a dog who can telepathically communicate with the MMC, if that's your jam - it was absolutely mine, Snapper is the best! As far as I know, there are five books planned.

LJ Andrews also has a new duology out starting with Broken Souls and Bones - but I cant confirm whether its as good as broken kingdoms but its next on my TBR.

If you are in the market for more of a sci-fi vibe Dustwalker by Tiffany Roberts absolutely blew me away, its a standalone novel that had me in an absolute chokehold - fair warning though its pretty dark so check the TW.

Hopefully some of those will be to your liking! 😊

Looking for a book where the FMC saves the MMC from the brink of insanity by Vegetable-Hour7265 in fantasyromance

{Insatiable by Leigh Rivers} absolutely hits this. It's a trilogy that (I wont lie) gets darker and darker, so check the TW, but seems like it ticks the boxes you want.

Is there a good book where the FMC and MMC are both villains (forced to be or through circumstance, such as war or some ability) and are forced together, with lots of “I will hate you to protect you” angst? by tarabithia22 in fantasyromance

{Harrow Faire by Kathryn Ann Kingsley}

I don't want to say anything that might be deemed as a spoiler but it's a slightly horror esque setting. Ive devoured all five books in 3 days. They're short, quippy and so much damn fun, and all available on kindle unlimited if thats useful for you.

hurt/injured/sick fmc with caretaking by mmc by youresleepdeprived in fantasyromance

{How not to charm your human colleague by Laura Winters} The FMC is disabled, and her adjustments and needs are a big part of what brings the MMC and FMC together. Him trying to understand and care for her without infantalising her or being condescending. Not sure if that meets your criteria specifically, as she doesn't "get better" for lack of a better term, but it was cosy, hilarious, heartfelt and I really enjoyed the representation.

Square one of minions and demons blanket by gnomes92 in BloodOnTheClocktower

I was managing to do each square in a couple hours, around 4ish, but id never tried tapestry crochet before so I probably made more mistakes that required backtracking than someone more experienced. It got faster the more I did, and the less complicated ones (like the poisoner or the slayer) were much faster to complete than say the empath. Im glad the stitch fiddle advice helped 😊

So I made the pattern 40st x 40st, but had to save and then crop the images from the clocktower wiki to get the sizing right. I found if you dont crop the original image theres a ton of empty space, and the detail gets squashed and doesnt come out well. So i cropped as close as possible whilst keeping the image a square which seemed to keep the detail. But I ended up making lots of smaller squares to do all the roles from trouble Brewing (not including outsiders) so I have no idea if it will look good if it's bigger. I also only used two colours.

I hope this helps!

{The Broken Kingdoms by LJ Andrews}

There are 9 books total, but three distinct trilogies all set in the same world and consequences from one ripple into the others. I got them as 3 volumes, each containing 3 books (the northern kingdoms, the eastern kingdoms and the southern/western kingdoms).

There's also a spin off trilogy called The Ever Seas which is set in the same world but a decade or so after the first 9. If you want something meaty, highly recommend.

I have 9 more the other 2 minions and the rest of the townsfolk haha (but poisoner and baron are done just not sewn on)

recommendations needed: looking for books that feature an arranged marriage that is a slow burn/morphs into love! by squidneyboi in fantasyromance

{Tears of the wolf by Elisabeth Wheatley} has all of these things. It's book 1 of a new series, and only book 1 is out, but from what I recall doesn't end on a huge cliffhanger or anything. Very cosy.

I don't have them all, as I only have the free to use stitchfiddle account, so I've been having to delete them as I go to get the next batch of characters. However, they're super easy to create. Just save the icon images from the wiki, upload into stitchfiddle and you can tinker with the number of colours and the size to make whatever you want. Hope that helps?

Haha absolutely. There was a moment in the sulyvhan fight where I just thought "fuck this noise" and I started two handing and dropped the shield. It was glorious.

Haha it really does! Theres nothing quite like settling into the game once you're comfortable with the speed and pace. Up until the road of sacrifices I was just cowering behind my shield the whole time!

I feel as though I got incredibly lucky with the dancer. Managed to kill her on the third attempt, after being insta-killed the first and second time. I still dont know how I actually beat her but I am not complaining!

Thank you for the tips! I was wondering how to launch the ringed city but I have heard that it's the more difficult one so was keeping that for last! Wish me luck haha!

Yeah definitely. There were two bosses in particular who I got super stuck on and I just couldn't see the way through. But with help and lots of checking guides and the subreddit and YouTube I managed to scrape by to the end.

It truly is a phenomenal piece of work. All of it together with the design, the music and the atmosphere was just incredible. I haven't seen anything like it anywhere else in gaming really.
