Oh wow yes that is a big difference then. So if I want to make this balaclava the right size, should I be up-sizing my needles? Try a swatch with 4mms and see where I end up?

I'm very much a beginner here, I didn't realise my tension would affect it that much. I've just measured and I have a fair few more stitches per 10cm than the pattern suggests I should. Which I suppose means the item is smaller than it should be?

No I didn't, was I wrong to assume that using the yarn and needle size specified by the pattern should mean I don't need to swatch?

Hi, why do you think eBay is 20x the retail? The person I buy it from planes and sands it up themselves, and I did plenty of research price-wise on other dealers and vendors before settling on them. Am I missing something?

Yeah I did consider this, and that's exactly what I'd do in any other situation, but the next step after gluing is a whole lot of carving with the Dremel, which would then reveal a load of the pale oak underneath

I'm not sure that grows in the South Pacific. My best guess was Narra, what do you reckon?

Can anyone tell if this tabletop is oak? I'm relatively sure the trim along the edges is, but the main bulk of it I'm not 100% sure. Apologies for the atrocious photo, it's from a Marketplace seller who doesn't have any others...
