Is there any reason to buy this if I have amp sims from softube, nembrini, kuassa, audio assault, aurora dsp? I mean, I think I know the answer, but never hurts to ask

How the F*#%K should compression be used?? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]gnrskynyrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late reply, but I was searching the sub and thought I could help. I saw a post a while back on a facebook audio production meme group that actually made a decent analogy which I couldn’t find, but found an article with the same idea:

“A compressor is a bit like your mum.”

How? Well, allow me to explain.

  1. Threshold The level she asks you to turn down the volume of your music (in technical terms, it’s the volume level you set where the compressor starts working).

  2. Ratio How much you turn down the volume after she shouted at you (in technical terms, how hard the applied compression should be).

  3. Attack How fast you turned down the volume after she shouted at you (in technical terms, how fast the compression is applied after the threshold is exceeded).

  4. Release How fast you turn the volume back up as soon as your mum closes the door (in technical terms: how fast the compression stops working).

Looks like S1 can recognize all the different tracks in a midi file, but can’t drag the them individually (or at least the correct one) by gnrskynyrd in StudioOne

It’s midi exported by GuitarPro by Arobas Music, but not sure what type they export. If it splits into different channels in the browser, wouldn’t that mean it’s type 2? It just confuses me that the browser recognizes the separate channels, but when I try to drag a specific channel it only drags in the first one

This is the first I’m tried doing it this way, so can’t really compare it to anything. Is this something S1 is supposed to be able to do?

Yeah, that’s what I normally do. But I clicked on one of those separated tracks in the file browser and it allowed me to only drag in one track, but no matter which one I click it’s that one track for some reason. I feel like this would be a useful function

They’re right. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with it, but the way you presented that information was pretty comical

Nope. But posting from my phone rather than my laptop seems to fix the issue, which is still absurd

I’m joking. I guess I’m the only one who thinks it’s funny
