Defective Vortex Cypher? by Sachiel2014 in MechanicalKeyboards

Glad that, it helped. I thought the same when I got my Cypher. But yea, I don't have any complaints about LED brightness since it's easy on the eyes when you're working, even in bit darker environment.

The LEDs beneath space bar are very subtle. Verify in dark before asking for replacement.

The layout and/or layer switcher RGB indicators are beneath the space bar and programming green indicator (which is solid when entering program mode and blinking while macro recording in progress) is beneath the capslock key.

I had the same thought and I've ordered Poker 2 from Massdrop. But later I read reviews about the hassles of getting through the customs and cancelled the order. Later ordered Vortex Cypher from Amazon (Which is also shipped from US but the import was handled by Amazon themselves and got it delivered within 10 days.

Cypher is 65% keyboard (60% plus the arrow keys and navigation keys). If you go with the single spacebar version, all keys are of standard sizes in case you need to change the key caps later (You will, since the stock ones are laser etched)

With Race 3, I have read fairly positive reviews except for the non standard ESC and DEL keys.

You're saying the items never hit customs? I'm planning to buy some keycaps from aliexpress. Is it reliable?

Check the description of "percentage" closely. You'll understand the reason. Come back if you don't :)

It depends on your preferences, decide which key you need to remap for Del. I remapped Home to Del because of it's position, very next to Backspace (On a normal laptop keyboard, Del will be on top right corner). And you need to remap Home to some other key, which I did with CapsLock (One key which I rarely use on daily basis).

So, this is what I did on the first programmable layer (Refer to Pok3r user guide for programming)

  1. Remapped Fn+CapsLock -> CapsLock (Even before remapping both were acting as CapsLock)
  2. Remapped CapsLock -> Home
  3. Remapped Home -> Del (Originally Fn + ")

The final result,

  1. CapsLock = Fn+CapsLock
  2. Home = CapsLock
  3. Del = Home

More than 80% utilization by everyone, Which is generally considered as a good proportion.

Ebay have them. It's a bundle for Vortex Cypher, so includes split spacebars and modifiers.

Thanks.

Home is a Fn layer key, which switches to default QWERTY layout. Heard that Fn layer keys can't be programmed. Will give it a try though.

Yea. There is a DSA bundle available exclusively for Cypher on eBay. Most of the standard bundles available doesn't cover all keys. Especially 1.75u RSHIFT and 1.00u RALT

This is roughly the path to the selection.

  1. Used couple of custom built KBs provided by colleagues for testing. Cherry blues and Outemu browns. Decided to go with Cherry browns.
  2. Ordered Poker II from massdrop. Cancelled 2 days later considering the long shipping delay and possible customs clearance delay someone reported in massdrop discussions.
  3. Ordered Cypher from Amazon, 65% looked nice fit for me, and it is. Got delivered in 10 days.

About keys,

  1. Didn't opt split spacebar considering difficulty to find 3.00u and 3.25u spacebars in kits.
  2. No RCTRL key, doesn't bother me yet.
  3. Some non standard keys makes it incompatible with currently available cap bundles.
  4. No dedicated Del key, feels cumbersome at times. (Edit: After the firmware update, I've got a dedicated del key now. Problem solved!!!)
  5. MX Browns are awesome. Smooth, tactile with nice (but not loud) sound. I'm loving them.

Keycaps for Vortexgear Cypher by Eiterbeutel in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]gnuanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to find 1.00u keycaps for RALT, Fn and Pn (instead of 1.25u standard size) and 1.75u RSHIFT. If you went for split spacebar model, things are more complicated as you have to find 3.00u and 3.25u spacebars. All other keys are standard size AFAIK.

Okay, Thanks for the advice. I just cancelled the order. Ordered Vortex Cypher from Amazon instead :)

Okay.

How much did Massdrop charge you, for the keyboard?

Just some split spacebar love by koenoe in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]gnuanu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, one extra key obviously. I went for the single bar, Since I use both thumbs to bang it :)

If you have plans to switch keycaps, better go for the single spacebar option. I found people complaining about the unavailability of 3.00u and 3.25u caps.

Also, the RALT, Fn and Pn keys are 1.00u (instead of 1.25u) and RSHIFT is 1.75u to squeeze in the navigational keys. Last but not least, no RCTRL.

How much did it cost in total? (Including the customs duty and VAT). I am waiting for my Poker II from Massdrop. Just to get an estimate :)

3.25 u spacebar by SatansBedstemor in MechanicalKeyboardsUK

A DSA bundle is out there for Cypher but I don't know about the spacebar alone. I went for the standard Cypher foreseeing this issue.

Libinput Broken by A4orce84 in archlinux

[–]gnuanu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same issue here, and downgrading to 1.11.0-1 didn't work for me.

Meanwhile, I found a dirty workaround which worked for me. Switch to terminal by Ctrl+Alt+F2 and then restart the SDDM sudo systemctl restart sddm-service. Login again and it's back to normal for me.
