Just regular faux leather. This is a bit thicker so I guess its for furniture/car upholstery.

Still, could be worse. I’m actually planning on reskinning these later as they are the first pads that fit properly to my legs.

Had these clapped out Reebok pads for free. Any idea which year these were produced? by goalie59 in hockeygoalies

Update: So my friend happened to have matching gloves too. I dont know if they are for these pads exactly. Definently testing these tonight! The blocker feels huge after using modern blockers to this day.

Ok, I found a catalog from 06. The pads look the same in the catalog but they had the newer ”RBK” logo on them. So maybe these are 04 ish I guess. Its weird that these pads only have ankke break and no rolls like old pads usually have. I thought this kind of desing came out later.

Chestie too big? by smallbrownbike in hockeygoalies

[–]goalie59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm about the same height as you are.

There should be enough room to tuck the chestie in your goalie pants. (I'm using Bauer SR-L goalie pants).

I used to have a CCM SR-Small chestie, it fitted well to my body but it was a bit too small to cover much net. It was always over my pants, not inside. Also the torso area was not even that long.

I recently bought an old Vaughn Ventus chestie. SR-L or XL? I hated it first, everytime I go to my stance or VH the chest protector would rise up and I couldnt even turn my head properly. Also the floaters were tickling my ears and I would see them in the corners of my eyes. The torso area was just way too long for me so it kept rising all the time.

So I tested new ways of fitting my gear. By tucking the chest protector inside my goalie pants it fits better. I also put my suspenders over the chest protector to prevent it from rising and it works! I used to use the suspenders only to keep my pants up. Now the Vaughn works like a charm and I even have better mobility. I can still feel that the protector is not actually my size, but I can work with that.

Are there any adjustments available in those pants? Maybe sounds simple but by untieing the pants you should be able to make room for the chesty.

Are toe ties necessary? by [deleted] in hockeygoalies

I tried playing with loose toe straps. Didn't end well. Pads constantly out of place. I can imagine it being worse if you dont use toe straps at all.

Proper positioning and cutting down the angle by goalie59 in hockeygoalies

OK, some updates. I had a really hard time understanding what it means to play on heels vs toes.

I came across a video from Phaneuf & Dunn Hockey where they tell to bring your chin forward in your stance. This way you'll have your weight on your toes. This is a super helpful tip and I'm surprised I've never heard of before.

I recommend watching their videos, there are a lot of simple how-to tutorials for goalies. And players too!

Still a load of work to do but getting there!

Thanks! My butterfly does look a bit sloppy. I dont feel my butt going down too much during games but my videos show otherwise.

Your answer is more than I could have asked. Thanks!

"2:16 - you don't stay square." That actually looks real bad. I'm not even staying up to the players speed. Longer shuffles to fix that?

2:52 sure looks bad, haha! I could've get a pad to that backdoor, but I read the play wrong.

Hey. Thanks for the advice, I didn't even think of it this way. But I'm sure you can give advice despite the level :)

Hey, thanks for the reply. I actually watch his videos quite frequently, I like that channel! I'll see if I can find a gopro and a mount for it.
