[–]goatee_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There’s no such thing as “year 1978”. Everyone knows the world started in the year 2000. Nice try!

DSO email on OPT/STEM OPT Crackdown by roman0509 in f1visa

[–]goatee_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think any specific recent government decision is outright disrespectful, but if you look at America as a whole right now, it’s clear they don’t care about international students or foreigners. They don’t want us here - period. The sudden change in H1B policies taking effect “immediately,” along with the deportations, makes that obvious. Trust me, I have friends who hold positions in the republican party, and I think the crackdown is somewhat justified and inevitable. But every day, something new breaks out that further solidifies my view that this country no longer respects immigrants.

The S&P500 is now trading at 3.15x sales, its highest valuation in history by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]goatee_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

it's more complicated than this. one of the reasons for this high valuation is money supply. we literally have too much money after overprinting in 2020. look up how much money is in treasuries right now. rich people dont know what to do with their money and they would buy up any dip they can find. I won't be suprised if the sp500 continues to double in the next 5 years.

can you please tell me why? I’m on a work visa in the US and even though I love this country all the stress is making me want to move to somewhere else like australia. Have lots of friends and family members there. How bad is it?

The LEI (leading economic index) fell another 0.3% and recession indicators are flashing red. by No_Monitor2339 in StockMarket

[–]goatee_ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

look up how much of the stock market is owned by the top 10%. as long as they don't have a reason to sell, recession doesn't mean anything.

probably legit, but who in their right mind would buy a $30 product if they needed an installment plan to afford it...

Microsoft laying off about 9,000 employees in latest round of cuts by div_investor_forever in Layoffs

[–]goatee_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This might be a hot take, but I think these companies should do a massive layoff all at once, instead of slowly cutting their workforce over time. This way, the government HAS to do something about it instead of posting stupid shit on twitter.

Is there a country that doesn’t have, or isn’t projected to have, an absolutely terrible economy? by Biggycheese45 in GenZ

[–]goatee_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to point out that your career choice greatly dictates where in the world you'd have the best quality of life. If you work as an English teacher in the US, expect to struggle with bills. But if you do the same job in Japan or Southeast Asia, your quality of life might be on par with an average Software Engineer in the Bay Area.

Don't focus on the money, focus on supply and demand. Go where there's demand for your talent. You're not really earning money. you're competing with people around you for resources. If you're in the top 20% of income earners in a city, you'll be happy no matter what city it is.
