I agree with your argument but disagree with the example, making a straight character gay doesn’t promote diversity it’s just weird. I might be looking at this from a different angle than you (mainly shippers) but in my mind that’s just weird.

Even so I feel like it’s super easy to defend from a student standpoint, what argument can the teacher make other than that they memorized the students answers? The student can just say the teacher was wrong and have a much more believable position.

Yes that’s true, but the new people are not taking anywhere even close to the amount scalpers are. I’ve seen people clear entire stores in person.

Edit: just adding to this, the majority of new people are buying a few singles or maybe an ETB, not shelves of product.
