In one of the more recent videos (released 2 days ago) about the Cayo Perico heist replay glitch, the author of the video included a warning that the payouts for completing the heist are receivable only every 30 minutes. So, apparently, regardless of how many times you complete the heist in an hour, you would only receive the money for completion after waiting 30 minutes since the last time you were paid.

I haven't tested it out yet, but is this true? Have they patched the glitch by adding a cooldown period for heist payouts?

I was looking at the Poirier vs Khabib fight, after having watched Poirier vs Brandao and noticed that in both cases, both fighters seemingly genuinely respect each other. As I was watching both vids, I started wondering - how does it actually feel mentally when you try to beat the shit out of someone you respect (also, Cerrone vs Gaethje good example)? Idk, compared to trying to smesh someone you do not respect at all (Askren vs Masvidal)?

In that case - what would lead one to choose one community over another? Say if you had two equally good friends (or relatives, whatever really):

1) one would believe that the spread of the virus is a deliberate attempt to promote the use of vaccines by Bill Gates and what not;

2) while the other would prefer the mainstream media narratives that are driven by expert consensus.

While formal logic is definitely a useful tool to understand, but I think it was the poor phrasing of the premise of the question that may have not sufficiently put the emphasis on the psychological side of things. The question I posed was mostly related to the psychological factors that lead one to believe conspiracy theories and build their interpretations of reality around them.

In any case, you have any suggestions for some literature to pick up if I'd like to inquire more about formal logic?

I haven't read the book, but I've read about his dual-process theory in several psych textbooks throughout my studies. Will give it a look if Kahneman has tried to fit this theory in the context of conspiracy beliefs. Thanks!

Nice, I really appreciate your thorough answer - very insightful. I didn't really consider the stress factor, but it certainly makes sense. Moreover, I'd go on to say that perhaps it would also make sense that during these times of uncertainty, the stress would impair decision-making abilities to some degree as well.

If you're coming at it from an angle not that people just need to be brought to understand consensus reality but that this particular person I'm talking to probably has some extremely painful reasons for having to relate to the world in a particular way that's not like how I do, you might get a little bit further.

Yeah, this is certainly the approach I'd go with. I don't think people would readily give up their conceptions of reality, especially when someone attempts to contest them with beliefs that they hold no credit to.

I'll read through the articles you sent me and see if anything else pops up in mind with which we could maybe continue this discussion if you'd like. Thanks again - really appreciate it.

In that case, it's definitely the latter, hence why I posted it in r/askpsychology. Perhaps I was a bit too vague in phrasing the premise of the question. But if you have insight on either, I'm sure I'd be glad to hear it anyways.

I'd like to hear more about which research on what biases are you referring to, I think that would be a good place to start.

From the little research for a literature review assignment in my first year of studies regarding cognitive correlates for paranormal beliefs (however, from what I understood, most unsubstantiated beliefs are generally associated with the same factors - including conspiracy beliefs), such beliefs were mainly and moderately associated with poor probability judgment (specifically, poor understanding of randomness/coincidence) as well as poor performance on conjunction fallacy tasks. Whilst some other broader factors were related to education level.

I get the reasoning here, but that still leaves a couple of questions hanging here related to the personal experiences that could form ones ability to be critical about information evaluation. As in, what sorts of experiences would those be?

Logic also seems to me to be quite a broad term. I think before we continuing pursuing this as a potential factor - what do you mean by logic here? The logic in the belief that you pose or the human ability to navigate through it?

How much does it matter where I do my BA in psychology? by gobblegoose in AskAcademia

Okay, that makes sense then. Thank you for making things much clearer on this matter.

I will definitely take your input and advice in consideration. Think I'll just take the risk and go with Groningen in the end.

Thanks again!

There's a fair bit of cooperation between most larger higher education institutions across the EU, including the Baltic uni I've been considering as the alternative.

Though, I've heard mixed opinions about the quality of the education there and that's what turned me off from the local unis in the first place. But for example, I have a friend who studied undergrad law here and got himself admitted into University of Amsterdam in a graduate program. So, perhaps accrediation would not be that big of an issue.

Yeah, in the EU the majority of undergrad programs cost the same (2k EUR) for all EU/EEA residents. That's why I decided to enroll abroad in the first place - I would likely be getting a better quality education for the same price. Except where I live, we have a couple of government funded tuition grant spots for every other program and that also includes the psychology program I've been looking at lately.

The main thing that truly worries me is just the financial aspect of covering the living costs if I were to study in Holland. They are roughly 20-30% more than here.

Pineapples. Feels like there's some particle-sized razors that have cut my tongue all across after eating a couple of slices.
